Performance difference question

how much of a performance difference will there be in gaming between the following to systems

A64 3000+ @ 300x9 at 1:1 (DDR 600)
vs.
A64 3000+ @ 300x9 at 3:2 (DDR 400)

So what does high memory bandwidth matter for the Athlon 64's cause I understand that they are not reliant on memory bandwidth like the P4's are, so why get good ram that can get to DDR600??? Does the on-die memory controller make higher bandwidth memory useless except for memory benchmarking?

It's not useless, it's just less of a factor. You're going from very fast to extremely fast. Not everyone can tell the difference, and not everyone necessarily needs it.

In any case, I'd just go for some cheap PC3700-4000 memory, so that perhaps you could use a more aggressive ratio than 3:2, if there are any.
