Performance difference in DDR

I am wanting to buy some PC2100 DDR RAM. What I would like to know is how much of a performance difference exists between using 1x512 stick or 2x256? I know a stick of 512 is more expensive and performs better than 2 sticks of 256...but is it enough to pay the extra bucks? LMK thanks!

depends on the type of user you are , performance or a budget word processor , ect
personally i would go with the single 512mg

1 stick doesn't perform better than 2. It does offer the possibility of greater expansion though. With 2 sticks you also have a backup in case one goes bad.

If you overclock, you will only get the performance of the slowest stick if you use 2, however, that is no different from having a single stick. Buy high quality and it won't matter. Generic won't be too bad, but you have more certainty with branded.

basically what CubicZirconia. the single 512 ddr dimm costs more becuz it allows u for greater ram capacity on your motherboard.

I am a gamer w/ interest in light OCing in the future...but I also want to save $$. I like the idea of having 2 sticks in case 1 goes bad, so i'll buy 2x256!

Alright, thanks for the info! 😀
