Questions:
1. Is there a real performance difference between DDR1 and DDR2? I have yet to see any comparable reviews between the two.
2. Will DDR2 motherboards use DDR1 memory? (at lower speed of course)
Thanks.
For background, my issue is this:
I have a AMD 64 3400 with Socket 754 and 2 x 512 megs of ram but I want to upgrade it it by sticking in 2 x 1024 Megs now, then next year upgrade to an X2 based CPU and just carry the 2 gigs over, thus saving me memory and giving me the 2 gig benefit now.
However, the new M2 cpu's/motherboards coming out in Q2 of 2006, murks up my plans, because it supports DDR2, so you can see the reason for my line of questioning above.
