Was wondering if it's worth the hassle to upgrade from my 256mb 9800 pro to a 6600 gt (agp version)? Is there a significant performance gain?

thanx for the advice.

Hardly worth it on a broad spectrum of games unless the upgrade cost is $30. With 9800Pro, you should look at 6800nu (which can be unlocked into 6800GT). Otherwise x800xl, x800pro, or 6800GT are your better choices. Benches

A stock 6600GT is about 15-30% faster than a stock 9800Pro. I wouldn't pay a whole lot for the upgrade, myself.

Please use the search function; this has been asked many times, and benchmarks of these cards are widely available.

The 6600Gt turns in faster benches and FPS ( significant, in some cases ), but for the most part is overkill when compared to the 9800 Pro, which can play any game out there at acceptable frame rates.

It might just be me, but I feel the visual quality of the 9800PRO is noticeably better ( than the 6600GT ) in 2D and 3D ...
