For my next build I'm looking to put two Caviar Black drives in RAID 0. I keep seeing the 640GB versions sold out. Are they better/faster than the 750GB which only cost $5.00 more? :hmm:

IIRC, the 640GB models have 2 - 320GB platters whereas the 750 has 3 - 250GB platters. The higher density "might" play a roll in higher transfer speeds, but not by much (IMO).

If a WD 640 Black was the cell mate of a WD 750 Black...
The 640 would stay the dude of the relationship and the 750 would assume to roll of the chick.

The 640 will run ever so slightly quieter and cooler because it has 2 platters vs. 3 on the 750. If that doesn't mean anything to you, go for the higher capacity.

The perfect high tech answer :awe:.

Is it true that I will "never go back" after using these drives?

I went with the Blue series and haven't left WD since (other than an OCZ SSD that I'm getting ready to install). The Blue has been one of the best drive's I've had (640GB Blue two platter) and the Black is supposed to be better (not sure how much but better).
