I'm looking into getting a performance chip/programmer for my 2012 Challenger SXT. I'd like to hopefully maximize my fuel economy. Any recommendations? I'm new to this :)

new to this

and

trying to do a better job of remapping the fuel/ignition system than the factory

is probably not the smartest thing

The answer is no. You have no capability to modify any of the programming for that vehicle. No product exists that will allow you to.

Also, questions specific like this really need posted to vehicle specific forums unless it's something extremely common like a mustang.

Find an AEM box. Any AEM box. They're all generally the same, just with different wiring configs. Since they won't have one for your car, you're going to have to custom wire it, so you might as well buy one for a Civic or something if it's the cheapest.

Disable and/or remove any kind of variable valve timing/lift setup your engine may have.

Make sure your car is registered somewhere that doesn't do an OBD2 readiness check for emissions.

...then just go ahead and set the car on fire. If you're 'new to this,' you have no hope of custom wiring a stand-alone aftermarket engine computer to your stock sensors and writing a working calibration file.

2012's have an encrypted PCM that hasn't been broken yet, until someone does that it's a lost cause.

No tuner yet. Coming, though. I'm not considering a tuner for my Charger, but I know it's coming.

Should have disclosed that I would not install it myself, since obviously I have no experience in the matter.

I'm 22 and just purchased this car....an R/T can wait ;)

Thank ya'll for the constructive comments! I'll keep my eye out on the market.

Well, i do know 100 percent diablo is working on a tuner for the r/ts and SXTs should be up soon. This is 2011+. I only know this from reading a charger forum. I'd never put a tuner in my v6 charger. I'd have just bought an SRT if performance was the bottom line for me.

That's a $20,000 price different though...

Assume you are able to wring out 3 mpg by altering the engine timing specs. How much is that going to save you vs the cost of modifications. When is payback?

You are better off with a light foot at start, anticipate stops by easing off on accelerator before hand.

Point of tuner is more HP, more aggressive throttle response, faster 0-60s, etc. The diablo tuner for pre 2011 charger/challengers run on 93 octane and make quite a bit of difference actually.

I'm just not the tuner type.

OP was asking for better efficiency.

I understand the point of performance tuning.
I had a job tuning HP diesels that get 10% increase.

Roger that. People say the Diablo predator tune improves mileage by a few MPG. But there are a variety of tunes that you can choose through the unit and I know not all of them improve efficiency.
