performance boost w/ 2 HD?

I've heard that having winxp on it's own seperate HD will improve performance of a system. So I'm thinking about picking up a 9gig scsi HD (I'm using an adaptec 29160) for the winxp drive. Now, my question is... is it possible to make winxp recognize the 2nd drive that I want all my programs to reside on or when I install all my programs, will i have to manually tell it to go to the other drive? Is their a significant performance boost?

THanks

You want your programs to automatically be installed on the other drive? I don't think there's a way to do that. I think that's a function of the installer, not the OS. You'll most likely have to just change the drive letter when prompted by the installer.

I've ran with having a dedicated HD for the OS and tried setting up a dedicated OS partition on the same drive. I've never seen any speed/performance increase by doing so except on StudioDV. Having a dedicated HD for video storage/editting has made a difference for me. Personally, I make one big-ass partition on my "c" drive for my OS/apps and one bg-ass partition on my "d" drive for video editting apps/video storage.
