so, i work at a tiny software company doing customer support. when i was hired the hiring mgr told me in 60-90 days i would get a review. It's been 91 and i've heard nothing. So...i'm sending this email to him:
Mr. X,

I was wondering if you knew when my performance review will be scheduled. If I remember correctly, when I was hired you said it would be 60-90 days and as of now it has been a tad over 90. I?d really like to know how I am coming along and what areas I might need improvement on. Please let me know when you find a time that you think is suitable.

Thanks,

well, i honestly do want to know what i am doing right and wrong, but my main purpose is to get some more money. I think they started me off a bit lower than what i wanted (my fault, didn't really get things running like i wanted when being hired). basically they never gave me a chance to negotiate my pay. i was hired, then told they would pay me what they were paying the other intern. i later found out it was 12/hr. It isnt bad, but i was hoping for something more like 14-15. Now, i don't think i can get away with a 2/hr raise after just 91 days of employment, but do you think i can squeeze away 1-1.50 ? It's something i do part-time (20-30 hours week, 40 when not in school) and i don't really need the job. They don't necessarily HAVE to have me, but i make the workload on my department drop dramatically and they are always stressed out. They've put a lot of time and effort into me and they don't want to hire another person and go through this all again, I'm sure. So, maybe i can use that as bargaining power, but i don't want to threaten to quit.

you guys got any ideas on scoring me some more cash? I've got a bad feeling he will schedule the review for sometime this week, it will be spontaneous, and they will try not to even talk about more money.

edit: Also, do you think this email is good enough?

I'd just ask if there is any possibility of a salary increase in the near future and make your decisions based on his response.

You waited one day outside that window?

My reviews at previous jobs used to be months after they were supposed to come, it will be prorated to the day you should have received it.

Also, I wouldn't email him.. go talk to him face to face if you're really concerned about it.

wow, they spent 10 minutes talking about crap completely unrelated. then said they had no complaints. so i asked where i need improvement, they said everything is good. so i said considering that, is a salary increase in the future viable. they asked me for a number, i said 2 (bargaining for one) and they gave it to me, lol. so i guess i'm up to what i wanted when i started (15). But on top of that, they are going to start giving me weekend calls...which earns me 100 bucks a pop. schweet!
