PerfectDisk 2008 Professional update troubles

A new build of PD 2008 was just released. Build 43 has a bug that causes an error to be displayed during boot. The error states "Failed to read state file exiting" then the boot process continues normally. This happens when updating to build 43 or on a clean install of build 43. I called Raxco support and they were able to reproduce the problem. So do not update or install PD until a build that fixes the problem comes out.

Update, I just got a call back from Raxco. Raxco has pulled build 43 from its update servers and all download links. It was found that some debugging code was not removed from build 43 prior to its release. So the report on boot up was not a real problem per say but just left over debugging code causing the screen to report "Failed to read state file exiting" on boot up.

If anyone already installed build 43 you will need to uninstall build 43, delete the PerfectDisk2008Install folder in the Raxco folder from program files then reboot and install the previous version. Once the fixed version comes out update to the latest build. Or just keep using build 43 until the fixed version comes out. Once the fixed version comes out uninstall build 43 delete the PerfectDisk2008Install folder in the Raxco folder from program files reboot and install the fixed build.

Download links for PD 2008, you will need your license key to reinstall your product.

Note: the new build should be out within a few days.

Susie from Raxco stated that Raxco is very sorry for the inconvenience.

I wish all companies had tech support half as good as Raxco. You get toll free calls, the person on the other end of the phone speaks perfect English and knows the products inside and out. Good products great support and a reasonable price, how nice is that.

Appreciate the info. I have been using PD2008 for over a month - but have left it at build 39. No problems at all in either Vista or XP Pro.

I share your views on Raxco - have always had top notch support and service there.

Build 44 is out. Just for fun I updated build 43 (buggy Build) to build 44 just to see what would happen and the problem is fixed. So there should be no big reason to uninstall build 43 and install 44 clean. Raxco must have wanted to play it safe so they told me to do a clean install. So I'd say its safe to update any build to the latest without worry.

I got it also - and it installed easily using the "Check for Updates" feature in PD2008. Itis oficially called SP1 by Raxco. Nice!
