perfect cpu for multimedia use

what is a good, cheap cpu for everyday multimedia use? like dvd, mp3, cd-writing and some gaming.

i was thinking of a duron or athlon 900. do you think they'll do good?
 
except for the gaming part, even a duron 600 would more than suffice. for games, I'd say any duron >1gig is great, since the morgan core is much more similar in performance to tbirds than the... uh... whatever the old duron was (spitfire?)
