Just want to record my first RAID 5 setup at home. Don't know if these results are about right.
Comments welcome.
PERC 6i with 4x Seagate 2.5" 500GB Momentus 7200 RAID 5 setup and result on Z68 i5 2400 3.1G DDR3 1333 machine.
1. 1.5GB VD (Dell PERC 6i's term for Virtual Disk created from the array) performance
(The VD is created using 512k stripe size, write back and adaptive read ahead)
2. VMware 25GB disk (20GB filled) WinXP VM performance
3. VMware 40GB disk (5GB filled) WinXP VM performance (is this real? but I tested several times)
4. HDTune result
It's astounding that there is such big performance difference between 5GB and 20GB VM disk size. but the 20GB VM performance is about 80% of the VD, I think it's pretty good.
