My resume is pretty bare when it comes to the IT field. What should I request for my starting hourly pay? I was thinking $10/hr, is that too much, am I cutting myself short?

looking for 20/hr now:(

If it's any consolation they didn't offer me $10. I recieved an email asking what my salery requirments where, but haven't responded yet because I don't know what is approiate to ask! Maybe ill ask for $9 and hope for $10.

Don't ask for $9 and hope for $10. If you ask for $9, then that is what you will get. Ask for $11.

Well the job I am applying to is at a Freeze Dried Food company. All they are looking for is someone who can do basic PC maintaince and help maintain a small business network. I would be working with their resident tech, so specifics would be a lttle difficult to mention in the resume. I think my resume is pretty solid (that was just an exceprt, I am too lazy to fire up the FTP and put it on my webspace).
But thank you for the advice, I will change that excerpt to add my Novell experience. I am going to ask for $10/hr.

What's the Geek Squad pay? I'm thinking of quitting my job and getting a part time IT-type job for fun. My current job is too stressful and I need a break. Just need something to pay basic bills for now.

When I was interviewing with them I believe they were to hire me at $8. They didn't hire me due to my lack of experience, and I don't have any sort of qualification, or certification.

The better solution is to ask them to set their price range first. If they low-ball you, then come back with specific reasons why that range is too low. Give yourself a raise from the start. Also ask about job training or sending you to classes so you can come back better serve them.

Geek Squad varies from BBY to BBY. When I applied and got hired I was offered $10.25 an hour. I said no way and stayed at my current job.

Yep, GeekSquad pay varies from location to location. Here in the Bay Area you can get up to $11 working as a tech.

I got my first internship after my freshman year of college (majoring in EE).

I was programming for a semiconductor fab in Flroida, and they paid me $9.50 per hour.... in 1993. It seemed like a lot at the time. Minimum wafer was like $4.75.
