According to Beverage Industry Magazine, Pepsi will be launching "Pepsi Throwback" and "Mountain Dew Throwback," both of which contain sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. The logos, seen above, were found through a search of the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Electronic Search System by BevReview.com, which reports that the trademarks were filed on January 9, 2009.

Sugar-soda aficionados seek out Kosher for Passover and Mexican versions due to the lack of HFCS, and Pepsi has been experimenting with sugar-sweetened versions of their soft drinks overseas. (See: Pepsi Raw)

Frig I love Pepsi. I hope this tastes good. I would much prefer drinking sugar instead of HFCS.

I wonder if they'll keep the total calories the same. The real benefit of fructose is it's very sweet, so you can use less of it to get a desired level of sweetness.

I drink water.
I drink juice.
I drink pop on occasion. The more caffeine, the more likely I'll consume it.

Mt Dew is so delicious. Pepsi... not so much. Coke is where it's at for regular cola.
I'll switch between Mt Dew and Vault, whichever is available pretty much.

Mt Dew with real sugar is full of win. :)

Now, if only the OP would provide a source link.

I wonder if the ever increasing price of corn, which would in turn increase the cost of HFCS, has any effect on their decision to go back to using sugar?

i would think there has been some "health awareness" backlash against hfcs items (judging by the propaganda commercials theyve had lately). maybe theyre testing the waters at trying to make soda seem like a "healthy alternative".

The last thing i read about it said Pepsi Co. and Coke save about 1 cent per 12oz. by using HFCS in place of Sugar.

I could certainly see the price of corn rising putting a dent in that.

Hmm.. Cool.

I've never had pop without HFCS, but I've heard it's quite good indeed.

Anyone see the Diane Sawyer documentary on "Hidden America: Children of the Mountain"

It was about poverty in Appalachia, but a big part of it was about Mountain Dew and how it is drank in excess as a sort of "drug"
