Costco has a special surplus item. It is cases of twenty-four 24 ounze plastic bottles of Pepsi or Diet Pepsi for $6. Each case is the equivalent of 48 12 oz. cans, so it runs the equivalent of 12 cents per can. I posted this because it appears to be a better deal than the Office Depot price with the coupon which has been posted here twice. A salesperson says it is for a limited time because it is a surplus item. The bottles are dated at more than 6 months old. However, I took home 6 cases tonight and it tastes fine. May be sold out already at some stores. Enjoy.

Edit: this is obviously B&M Costco only. Not their website.

They aren't cans but plastic bottles. The price is given as an equivalent to 12 oz. cans. Costco is a chain on the west coast I believe. At least I know it is all over California. The equivalent back east is Sams Club. When I went into a Sams Club last year visiting Ohio I noticed they had many of the same items at the same prices as Costco. Either they use some of the same suppliers or they are under common ownership. So it might be worth checking out Sams Club if you are back east. Out here, I have seen the deal at both Costcos in my area. Costco's regular price on sodas is pretty outstanding as well, like half of what you pay at the supermarket. You do have to buy by the case though.

You also must have a membership or know someone who does. I have forgotten how you get a membership since I have had mine for over 10 years. I believe it is free though unless you get a premium membership which gives you cash back on purchases (worth it if it spend like $1K per year there). We buy most of our food there, plus books, clothing, DVD's and software at small to major discounts. This is one of their hotter deals though.

One more edit: I just grabbed a bottle to check, and these bottles do have a redemption value depending on the state. Some states 10 cents, some 5 cents. For California it just says "Cash refund" however without specifying the amount. I'll have to check that out. With a recycle rebate, the price is sort of ridiculous.

Us right-coasters have Costco in addition to Sam's Club. One just moved into my neighborhood, so it might be a recent expansion.

I beg to differ with you. I have a vending business, & have NEVER seen a can of pop with "born on dating".:) Beer, yes. Pop, no. If it is "born on dating" then I guess the pepsi I received yesterday from OD hasn't been "born" yet, as it is dated April, 2003.

If you are very lucky the pop will taste ok, but trust me, it does go bad!:frown: I would be very skeptical of any that is more than a month or two past it's date. Ymmv, buyer beware. Also, pertaining to regular pop, it lasts much longer in cans than it does in bottles as the light that the bottled pop is exposed to has a negative effect on it.

In my experience, diet pop can have expiration dates as far as 4 months in advance of when it is purchased, while regular can be over a year.

On another note, my Dad had a boat for a number of years. One year, he stocked up on pespsi products in bottles in the spring. Not all had been consumed by the end of the season (Michigan) so he took them home to drink them during the winter. They were horrible tasting, & were only 1-2 months past their expiration dates. He ended up dumping the pop, & returning the bottles for their deposits.

Bump for a good-sounding deal...I think the key thing here is YMMV on these 'good' tasting things.. :)

Point of clarification. Dukat1 is correct. My wife bought these and told me they were six months old. Upon inspection however, the bottles do not have a "born on" date. Actually, they have an expiration date, "do not drink after August 20, 2002." She told me she assumed that meant they must be six months old. Kind of meaningless, but a clarification for the sake of total accuracy. Personally, I'm not too worried about the expiration date, but YMMV. Second point: you pay the redemption cost (5 cents per bottle) on top of the price, then return the empties for the refund. Duh. It always works that way.
