Pepper Spray or Taser?

ive been contemplating this same issue as well. My gf just started working in NYC and I want to give her something to make her feel safer. something she can carry in her purse. I think pepper spray would be better because its more concealable, is cheaper (easily replacable), and doesnt require maintainence
 
I've seen people take pepper spray right in the face and not even be slowed down. Tasers on the other hand tend to drop everybody.
