So, I had a wheel alignment done back in November when I had my tie rods replaced. When I got the car back I noticed a very minor pull to the right which at the time I thought I might be the roads I was driving on.

In December I had them replace my right CV axle, when I got the car back the pull was really noticeable, I called them the said it might be a tire caused pull and rotating the tires should rule that out. I rotated the tires my self, car still pulled to the right. So I took it back and had them recheck the alignement.

I was told then back the service rep that I have a negative camber and my car(99 Nissan Altima) does not support camber adjustments(what a crock) and that I would need a new strut and control arm. I did not let them do that work because I don't trust them and I didn't have the money at the time.

Last Wedness day I had my sturts checked by another repair shop when I got an oil change. Struts are good. Nothing wrong with them. And the tech said I really need an alignment

Today, I took my car back to PepBoys to have it checked again for the 3rd time, but get this, their machine was broke :|. They called the next closest store which was 13 miles away to see if they could do one, they had a backlog of 4 hours, which I was not going to wait as I was standing outside this other pepboys before they opened.

I then demanded a refund under their 100% service satisfaction guarantee. I was told by the peon at the counter that they can't give me a refund until they verify my car is out of spec. Hello? It's impossible to do that moron, your machine is broke! :|

Needless to say I'll be disputing this with my credit card company and I'm calling the District manager Monday.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, PepBoy puts a warranty on their alignments for 6 months/6,000 miles. A lot of good that does when their machines don't work.

UPDATE: Today I called the Manager and raise hell, the guy was scared, you could hear it his voice. He told me that the repair dude was going to have the machine fixed in about hour of my called. So I when I arrived an hour later, I walk in to the repair center, I didn't have to say a world because they remembered me from yesterday and said the machine wasn't fixed yet so they were just going to give me a refund. Good thing he recognized that I was upset with the situation and I was not one to frak with. :D

eh, I guess it depends which PEPboys.

The one in Reno on Virginia had really well trained certified techs who knew what they were doing and would take time to go over any issues with you.

PepBoys is terrible. And their wait times are insane. Last week I waited three hours for them to change a tire on my car. From now on I will buy the tire from them and have it installed by someone else. Find a real mechanic.

Are you disputing the whole original bill? Or just the cost of the alignment?

Just the cost of the alignment.

Tell me about it, the moron at the shop near my house wanted me to drive 13 miles, wait 4 hours and then drive back to get my refund. Frak that.

None of our local auto parts big chains are worth a damn. Discount auto, pep boys, nor autozone. The customer service sucks at all of them and I can never find anything I am looking for. Of them all, pep boys is the best, but I wouldn't take a car there for a repair.
I get the best service from loacl parts stores if they have what I need.

Pepboys is the only store around here that carries purolator oil filters. I go there all the time.

Just for the filters though, I do my own work.

I worked at Pep Boys during HS, and my first two years into college. I've seen my share of stores, and they really are hit or miss. I was a parts manager, then became a service writer. The main location I was at was well staffed with ASE certified mechanics and service writers. It was a really high-volume store, so that's the reason why it was staffed with the best.

There were a few other locations that I worked with, and while sales were steady enough to remain profitable, they weren't a top tier store, and were staffed accordingly.
