"Our machines can't handle it..."

is there truth to this?
or did they just not want to service me because mounting tires yields them the lowest profit?

edit: tire size = 205/40/17

Sounds suspiscious, but it is possible that the machines they use require a certain amount of sidewall. Mounting can be a PITA if you don't have it done by the same place that sold the tires, found that out the hard way with my motorcycle. $150 total for two tires, $70 to have them mounted. :| Thankfully, I've since found a better cycle shop to deal with. If anyone is in Northwest Ohio, never deal with BG Motorcycle, they'll screw you over eight ways from Sunday.

they usually don't do it...'cause it's out of car's spec.
and they don't want to be responsible for it.

any tire place will give you this same problem.

Truedat. Take your tires and rims to a place that sells aftermarket tires and rims. THey'll do it for you. They will charge you, but that's only fair. :)

I used to work at a garage, and the machine we had for tires would not do low-pro's. If you could get the tire on at all, you'd end up ripping the bead or damaging the rim. Mounting low-pro tires correctly requires better mounting equipment than most local garages or places like Pep-Boys have. Take them to a place that only does tires, preferably a place that specializes in aftermarket rims.
