The Berkeley City Council will consider a resolution that would declare the Army private suspected of leaking classified information to WikiLeaks a hero and call for his release.

The council plans a vote Tuesday on the resolution in support of Pfc. Bradley Manning, who is being held in a military brig in Virginia. A city commission already has approved it.

Bob Meola, who authored the resolution, tells the San Francisco Chronicle that Manning is a patriot who deserves a medal.

Even for Berkeley this is a new low.

Terrorist? Maybe a traitor but not a terrorist.

What wikileaks & company is doing is effectively the same thing. If you arrest me for my crimes I will do XYZ. wikileaks is trying to force a political change through threats. That is terrorism.

I will however update the title to be more clear as I know some here will get their panties in a bunch over it.

Ahh, the conservative equivalent of the Sarah Palin thread. Stupid people trying to get attention, and you are just giving it to them.

Not a terrorist, but he should stand before a military tribunal for treason.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Could you tell us exactly which enemy he adheres to, or gave aid and comfort to?

If he is ever court-martialed, it will be for unlawful use of government property or something since treason can't be proved.

This is what happend when you sweep everything you do under the National Security State Blanket (tm).

THis will only happen more frequently and no amount of deterrent will stop it.

I guess you're a military judge who for some reasons publishes your judgments online! Wow! This forum has gone up one more level from lawyers, economists, and now a judge! Military judge mind you.

As for the OP, Berkely can do anything they want with Manning. The bottom line is for the military to try Manning and hopefully find him guilty for whatever UCMJ violations he committed.

Stupid on every level, in part because at this point Manning is just a suspect and not convicted of anything.

Nope, I just know how to read.

But you're right, he should obviously be convicted of treason and executed because he exposed that some ambassador's aide thinks Angela Merkel is a doody-head.

I'm pretty sure he was the source of the identities of our allies in Afghanistan.

He willfully revealed classified information about battle areas that can be used against us by our enemies. That is treason.

He's gay and his boyfriend is a self described drag queen. There is no way in hell Berkeley couldn't support him. It's a given.

I don't think this guy did it out of principles. He's troubled.

Still should tried for treason.
