Ronstang,

these were factory production race cars, anybody could buy one, they cost about 3,500 to 4,000 dollars in 64, in todays dollars about 30,000 to 35,000

you didn't have to connected or be part of a factory race team to buy one. in 64 if you walked into a dodge dealer and dropped the money on the table you got one

they also had lightweight options like Aluminum fenders etc

I know what the cars were. But look at the production numbers. They were not common then or now. These cars were only offered to the public to meet the requirements of the sanctioning bodies of the races they competed in....same reason I have a 1966 Shelby!

the 64 hemi's were race hemi's not street hemis like the regular hemi's of 66 to 71

do you even know what a max wedge is?

ROFLMAO!! You though those cars were stock??? They were full blown race cars stuffed into a stocker chassis with different trannies, different gearing and racing slicks. They WERE NOT production cars, not stock, not street legal and not available to the general public. There are cars that do 11's right out of the box on stock tires, regular unleaded pump gasoline and a factory warranty in a street legal package available to anyone that has the money to buy them. They will smoke any 60's production car.

I ran a '70 Boss 302 in my youth. That sucker was one hell of a road machine. You could hit it at 120 and that machine would squat and be gone. Ah, those were the days.

they didn't come with slicks, they were street legal at the time, they rolled off the regular production line, different gearing? you had many gearing options. and yes anybody could buy one if you had the money, true they may not have had a warranty, they needed high octane gas, they really weren't street cars, but they were production cars. unlike the ford thunderbolt and the later 68/69 hemi barracuda's

what are all these 11 second cars your talking about? a viper maybe or some very exspensive sports car

is a viper a muscle car? ya and no it's more of sports car

not stock? it's the way it was delivered, if you had the cash you could order 5 of them and get them, like RJ Reynolds kids did

also about the tires, it was 1964, the tires were the weakest link, you can't compare those tires to tires of today

Only considered that by the truly ignorant. They were certainly among the fastest production cars of THAT time, but of all-time? ROFL, it takes some serious brain damage to believe that. 1/4 mile times of a well-tuned stock Hemi were 13.5-14.0 seconds depending on the gearings. There have been plenty of production cars since then that run 11-12's stock.

Max Wedge cars were available to anyone who could afford them and were street legal.

64 Hemi cars were not.

67 and 68 SuperStock hemi cars were available to anyone who could afford them. Only the 1968 Hemi A-bodies were not street legal. But were stock even with a 600hp race hemi.

Edit: 1968 Hemi A-bodies stock 1/4mile was in the 10's and Ford Thunderbolts were in the 11's. They ran on pump gas.

Facts folks, get to know them before spouting off.

Not a muscle car, but a Muscle Truck that my Father and I restored many years ago. It had a reworked small block with all the goodies and it was definitely a wolf in sheeps clothing in terms of speed. But it was mainly built for cruising.

yep these were fast cars, only slighty faster than the 64 dodges and plymouths

but there is a differents, some discount these 68/68 hemi darts and barracudas becuase they weren't readly available to the general public, they were not assembled on the regular production lines they were basicly hand made, they were more costly to/if joe nobody could even get one

yep anybody could get a maxwedge car in 62 thru 64, there are reports of a few sold in 65 models too, and the price wasn't cheap, but it really wasn't all that much money considering what you got. 64 hemis were limited and rare they came out later in the model year, but some lucky general public nobodies did get them

I'm assuming you mean bone stock w/o any mods?
New Z06 Corvette? I think I heard it do a 11.49 at a factory event?
The new 2007 Shelby Cobra Mustang? 450-500HP...maybe 11's.
These are both supposed to be under 100k

i had a 68 Plymouth RoadRunner, somewhat 'built' 383 . . . nice car but got me into trouble with the POlice. :p

i still have 2 nearly identical "japanese muscle cars" currently [for sale] - Both '76 Mazda Cosmos [rx-5] . . . one is setup for 'race' and dynoed just under 300hp [not bad for a 1.3L engine]. . . . they are actually small "sedans" that predated the RX-7 with lots and lots of HP.
