It's old, produces 200HP, and enough torque to uproot a tree (if the frame were capable of that)

Vroom. Oh, yeah, I forgot, I still own that '77 Mercury Marquis. Anyone wanna buy it?

Didnt you sell that?

The Marquis? Yeah, but the guy never showed up to get it, never paid, and just plain dropped off the face of the earth.

I didn't include my turbo caravan and I think I have yours beat. Just upped mine to 18psi :D.

I ran 32 on the old motor. Blew that all over the gas station parking lot, though. Present config on the new motor is 20. I don't think I care to go back to the limits, because I definitely did not care for spending a month and a half looking for a turbovan in the junkyards that hadn't run into something.

Funny thing is that when I found a replacement, the only thing wrong with the motor was that the sparkplug wires had burned off the tips under the distributor cap. Was a fun swap, though. I now have two stock Mitsu turbos and two stock heads hanging around here, plus a ton and a half of misc. parts that I took off the both of them.

Well maybe I don't then :). Should have more then 200hp at 20psi I would think though. Haven't blown mine up yet other then the headgasket that just gave me an excuse to put a garret on it and the trans. 150k miles though so I am sure the engine isn't to far behind.

Only reason mine blew up is because I dumped the cheap stuff in there in a moment of pure wisdom at the gas station. Pinged itself to death. Supposedly these motors are good to about 30PSI before stuff becomes iffy, so I wouldn't go writing off that little 150k just yet. Ya ain't gonna blow it up with boost, and I assume you take relatively good care of it. It should last forever :p

There is a 69 Torino fast back buried in my dad's barn somewhere. It has a 428cj. I drove it back before I went into the service and installed a nice E.B. dual quad carb set up on it. When I shipped out, he put the car away. When I came back, I was married and my priorities had changed.

Now, I'm thinking to ask him about it...probably on Father's day. I'm curious about how it's been cared for, if at all. It's probably still sitting on the blocks that we put it on about 25 years ago. It probably ain't gonna be a pretty sight. :(

BTW, that car got me in huge trouble...like 12 moving violations in about 9 months. I remember having no license and being uninsurable.

Car

Engine

1964 Dodge Polara 500

Original 383 rebuilt with Edelbrock Aluminum heads, Performer RPM intake and Demon 750 carb - engine dynoed at 449hp and 478ft/lbs torque. Makes over 400ft/lbs torque from 3000rpm to 6000+. Does this running 89 octane or better fuel.
TTI Aluminized headers going into TTI 3" dual exhaust with an H-pipe. Spintech mufflers.
Griffin aluminum radiator with dual Spal 10" puller fans
March serpentine pulley setup.
FBO systems ignition system with pre-curved distributor.
Keisler Tremec TKO-600 5spd transmission with hydraulic clutch
Reilly Motorsports full front K-frame and suspension with coil-over shocks, rack and pinion steering
Wilwood 12.19" disc brakes front - with 4 piston calipers, TSM 11" disc brakes rear
Custom backspaced American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels.
"Dr. Diff" 8 3/4" 741 case rear with 3.55 Suregrip gears
Firmfeel rear swaybar

Future projects are:

Install Dynomat underneath entire interior
Install Vintage Air system
Install HID conversion

It's different, which is what makes it kind of cool in my book. I go to the car shows and it always turns heads - especially when it's parked next to two dozen Camaros, Chevelles and Mustangs.

And interestingly it wasn't really called a muscle car. Though they had the Max Wedge Polaras that were really the start of factory drag racers.

If this car was a 413 Max Wedge car it would be worth over 100K.

they were true muscle cars period

383, 426 street wedge, 426 max wedge and 426 hemi engines. they are also considered to be by some as the fastest production muscle car of all times

a old girl freind of mine had a 64 plymouth sport fury 2 door hardtop, 361 2 barrel engine, auto tranny with floor shifter, mint condition, were talking back in about 1990, unsure if she still has it

Hah, I don't remember, but I appreciate. My eyes are always open and looking for an old beast that some granny drove to and from church in and is selling because she got a Honda. Would be a great project.

Only considered that by the truly ignorant. They were certainly among the fastest production cars of THAT time, but of all-time? ROFL, it takes some serious brain damage to believe that. 1/4 mile times of a well-tuned stock Hemi were 13.5-14.0 seconds depending on the gearings. There have been plenty of production cars since then that run 11-12's stock.

GagHalfrunt,

I guess you don't know your cars, they set many records in The SS class, the standard max wedge cars or hemi cars in 64 could do low 11 quarters stock except for the tires and rims on the back

the 64 hemi's were race hemi's not street hemis like the regular hemi's of 66 to 71

do you even know what a max wedge is?

Those cars that ran those times were anything but stock. A lot of them were factory prepped full blown race cars. I'm not trying to take anything away fromt eh 60's Mopars as I like them myself and have personally built a 318, 413, and a 440. Your average mopar bought from the dealership with a big block ran nothing near those times.
