... how secure are you in your job? I was talking to a few friends recently, I we all realized that none of us are secure that we'll be at the same place a year from now. So the question is: how secure are you that you'll keep the same job for years to come. Unless of course you quit by yourself.

My bosses have made it pretty clear I have a job as long as I want it. Of course this is because last year was probably the best year the company has ever seen. Who knows if they'll change their tune if times start getting rough.

I voted for "I'm pretty sure I'll be here for quite some time," but I intend on leaving for college late this year meaning I'll probably quit.

As long as we have a couple of clients I'm secure unless I just totally screw around at work. There are only a couple of us providing support to 5 different clients and we are actually making money. We are literally at the bare minimum needed to provide support. If we lost anybody else to layoffs right now we would never be able to keep up.

Other groups in my office have seen a lot of layoffs though. We aren't even having our yearly salary reviews until after the 1st quarter this year. Even then we aren't guaranteed even a cost of living raise. Fortunately, I got a huge raise last spring. So, that shouldn't hurt me at all.

My manager told me I was doing a good job, and that's a good thing to hear!

None of us are secure in keeping our job if we don't do our job.

In fact, one of people who got hired same day I did was let go....even if the company I worked for had a good year last year.

It all depends on productivity. I do the best job I can and keep my manager and customers happy. Best job security there is!

I'm sure if I didn't want to leave eventually I'd be there for a while.... I want to leave and go elsewhere though.

I'll be with the company i'm with now until I decide i don't. They are making money hand over fist, and job security is VERY HIGH. I love it :)

my company is doing ok not great. The entertainment industry got hit hard after the near-strike in July then Sept.11. My company doesn't get a movie until 6-9 months after productions starts. So the next few months may not be so great. There's plenty of stuff starting now, it's just going to take some time before we see it..

I don't have a job because I'm a full-time college student, but I voted the third option anyway just so I could see the results of the poll.

When I started my current job 26 months ago I had no clue I'd be here this long. I'm 19 now, & I've been at this job over 11% of my life. Scary.

That having been said, I will likely still be here in a year. In the current economy (especially in Oregon, with 8% unemployment), I'd be a fool to leave. I'm making very good money for my age, I have a surprising amount of seniority due to the turnover rate, & my employer is actually more secure in times like this. So, I consider myself to be secure. I intend to ride out the current economy before I leave.

I graduated in June of last year and started my job at an insurance company in August. Since that time, our team has been trimmed from 16 to 12 and the company we service was the only company to meet our internal sales goals (that should let you know how bad other teams had it). Luckily (or possibly unluckily) I am the only one in my position on my team with a degree.

So I've survived two rounds of lay offs and look to be pretty secure, however, the product I service depends highly on the success of the market. If things turn bad/worse, I could easily see getting the axe. My company does have a 60 day "unassigned" status, plus a severance package of one week and any remaining vacation time (would work out to 75 days).

Thats close to three months with no work and full pay. Getting laid off really sounds attractive.

I've been a CNC machinist at the same place for the last 23 years. We had one layoff about 10 years ago, and a second one about a month ago. If we don't get some orders in soon, the whole place could be done with. It's been in business for 40 years now, employing about 75 people on average all that time.

I'm kicking around the idea of being unemployed, working under the table and changing careers/jobs. Almost sh!t about it at first, but now it's settling in. We were all worried about it in the beginning, but now everybody is just sort of accepting it. Kind of a queer feeling...

I'm pretty sure I can never be fired or laid off, so I guess I'm stuck here forever.

I'm still in my first "probationary year" with a government job, but i'm making my quotas and what not, so pretty soon i'll have to burn down the building to be fired!

I've been with the same company for over 20 years and have lost track of the layoffs I've been through. We're at about half the personel now as we had when I started. I'm working on a project that should last at least three more years so I believe I'm secure but we are also merging with another company so who knows.

The only constant is change.
