People with comcast... do they automatically kill you at 251GB?

I just got a roku and have been using about 6-8 GB a day (a streaming HD movie or two, leaving NASA TV on, etc.). In 3 days I used 20 GB. If that stays stable, I'll use around 200 GB a month. I'm a little concerned that I may hit 250 but don't want to monitor myself day in and day out.

Do you know if Comcast will automatically fire you for going over? They say they call and warn.... but I wonder if they call *everyone* who goes over 250GB? Anyone have experience with this?

Want to cancel cable and just do the roku thing, but don't want to push it.

From what I've heard, they'll only warn if you go over 250GB by a fair bit for two or three months in a row and even then it's just a warning.

Got that call last June last year, though I was never threatened for disconnection. IIRC, went beyond 650Gb once. Switched to Business Class HSI, no 250GB cap. Went from 20mbps/5mbps to 12mbps/2mbps for the same price ($59.95/month- 2 yr contract).

no. in fact, i don't think i've ever even heard of anyone being murdered by comcast if they hit 251GB.

i think they send you a strongly worded letter... but no murderer.

I thought it was a warning at first, then they just charge for extra similar to phone data plans.

I've gone over 250GB a few times (still below 300GB though). They've never said anything to me. A friend of mine told me once that he's always been over 250GB, but he never gets a letter or anything. From what I've heard, you have to be far over the 250GB "cap"... such as 500GB+. Although, I would assume if there are bandwidth issues in your area, they would definitely look at the logs to see who's using the most bandwidth.

The only bad thing is... just because I use 300GB a month doesn't mean that I'm hogging bandwidth at peak hours :p. I could perform a significant amount of downloading between 10PM and 8AM (I get between 2.5MB/s and 3.0MB/s). Just doing some quick math... 60s * 60m * 10h * 2.5MB/s = 87.89GB (between those hours) * 30 days = 2.57TB.

It varies on area from my experience. Where i live now is a smaller market and ive gone over a couple times (though generally not by much..10-20gb at most) and never heard anything. but my brother who lives in seattle went over and said he got a message mostly just informing him he went over. Of course it wasnt a stop using internet but mostly just filled with if it continues then issues could be brought up and then a whole bunch of check for ad ware and crap. Might have been luck of the draw for him or just the larger market area where he lives vs mine.

Are you paying for 12Mbps connection and getting 100Mbps??

How would we know? The ones the do kill are dead and their relatives no longer have internet.
