that don't have the HD service. What the hell is wrong with them? I went over to my friend's apartment yesterday and he has a 55 inch tv and has digital cable but doesn't have HD. I know someone that spent $3k on a tv and is refusing to spend $5-10 a month for HD service. How the hell can you spend $3k on a tv and then watch that fuzzy basic cable? Why not just buy a tube tv for $300 and be done with it.

cause we barely watch tv. the HD was mostly because that's all you can get w/ a flat panel widescreen format. and DVD's upscaled is decent enough for us. the other priority is ps3 and wii (and whatever, the wii looks not that great, but I still have fun).

bought a 37" lcdtv for home, thanks to the built-in QAM tuner, I got local tv feed by plugging in the cable to my tv. we don't pay anymore for cable, but we can still get some free tv. local channels are in HD, sweet.

Some people just get the big TV for DVD, Blu-Ray, or games. I don't pay extra for any HD channels beyond ABC, etc.

Because some of us don't watch television?

I play all my hi-def content via my PS3.

These people don't even have one HD channel. They sit in front of the TV and watch football and it looks like shit. But they think since its 55" that its somehow great. I'm sure if these people had video game systems, they would probably hook it up with an RF connector.

Ugh. On my TV it doesn't look bad at all. I guess I'm not an HD snob like some. Also HD is $40/mo more than my current service, just not worth it IMO.

I have a 40" HDTV without any cable or satellite, I get all my HD broadcasts over the air. They look fantastic and they are free. Everything else I need comes from online or downloaded videos.

Sounds like HD would be a waste in their case?

My mom has a 65" HDTV in the living room, and a 42" 1080p TV in her bedroom.

No HD service. She doesn't see the difference. I've stopped trying to convince her HD content is sharper, has more vibrant colors, etc etc. It's impossible when she just claims it looks the same.

Besides, you can't buy non-HD TVs that big.

Throw up some rabbit ears and let her see Leno just once in HD. Then switch it back to the SD station. She'd have to be blind to not see the diff.

Do it on her TV.

Actually, the thing that annoys me is when people with HDTVs, or just widescreen televisions in general, stretch 4x3 content to fill the screen and somehow think they are watching HD television. The stretch mode should be removed from all televisions.

I think its ignorance. They think there is no difference.

PS To people who don't watch tv, nobody cares. Stop coming in every TV thread and telling us about how you watch hulu and netflix on your computer and you haven't owned a TV in 12 years.

I use HD OTA for my plasma and it looks better than digital cable or satellite due to no compression.

Most cable providers have ClearQAM as well where you can get your local's in hd just by plugging in the coax directly into your tv.

I have a 37" LCD and don't even have cable. I think I win. I do have OTA HD for free though. It's nice to use for the VERY RARE occasion that I play my Xbox360 or watch HD videos off of my compact HD camcorder.

Edit: Dangit, I have been beaten by 2 people to claim HDTV with no cable/satellite.

Could be ignorance, but its kinda hard to use the argment that they haven't SEEN HD somewhere to compare. I'm assuming they've been to Target or Walmart in the last couple years right?

You are an ignorant jackass. I don't have a cable service. I use my HDTV's for HD-contnent via HD-DVD, PS3/360 HD streaming online.

There is absolutely nothing on your glorified network HD-TV that I want, need, or do not have better streaming directly online from.

I didn't have HD programming the moment I bought it, but the tv picks up digital too.
HD OTA antenna coming soon (I had HD Sat but I didn't like it)

HD is still a clusterfuck for most people.

They don't care. Their 1986 32" color CRT went out and they needed a replacement for they next 15 years. 99% of new 50"+ TVs are HD compatible. It's not like they went out looking for a 1080p display. They wanted a replacement TV, so they bought to their budget based on size. How is this difficult to comprehend.

Hell, I bought my 52" DLP HDTV 3 years ago and I just now viewed my first HD source (OTA.) I only have satellite available to me and I'm not paying $300 for a sat-HDDVR with shitty interfaces just so I can watch a few more people with heavy makeup in HD.
