we're looking for a hotel in the area (prefereably near the water, but cheap)

where should we be looking? address-wise?
 
I've a nice timeshare in Ormond Beach but can't use it during Speed Week nor Spring Break week 🙁

You might consider staying in Ormond rather than Daytona itself unless you just want to be nearer the boardwalk and all the action.

There are a few events that go on up in Daytona. Like Bike Week (which I believe just past). Datyona 500. Etc. I don't think spring break is as big as it once was up there. In FL, I think Panama City is the hot spot now? ICBW.

Anyway, wherever you stay check and see if there's any events occuring that may make your trip less desireable. I've heard the traffic is horrible during Daytona and Bike Week.
 
Believe it not some places are still available in Daytona.
try priceline and expedia.com for deals this late in the game.

yeah, we haven't noticed problems with vacancies in the hotels we've seen so far

I think we're trying to get near the boardwalk, but don't know what addresses to search to make sure of that

I think you'll be hard-pressed to find beach front lodging for less than that. $85/night doesn't seem too shabby.
 
8 years ago we stayed at a place that I think was called the "Whitehall" hotel or something like that.
I'm pretty sure we paid under $150 each for a week.. there were 4 of us so it must have been around $600 for week.. during spring breakish time. I remember bike week was starting as we were leaving.
it was on the beach. nothing totally fancy.
it was next to the Ho-Jo.

everything else is just a drunkin blur...
 
Go futher south to Cocoa Bch It's has nice beaches, Daytona beach has a bacteria problem right now all along the coast, and Cocoa Bch is only sixty miles south of Daytona. 😎

It's a little bit overcrowded these days. I like a fairly desolate beach...
 
daytona's boardwalk is right at the end of Main street heading north up the beach, and isnt that big, 4 old arcades, a few restraunts...

There is a bacteria issue right now at daytona though, but plenty of beaches close that are ok and empty...
