People who work: do you pack your own lunch?

VOTE.

I was just thinking, and I realized that when I used to eat out I'd spend over $100 a month on lunches. That's insane, so I started to pack a sandwich or two everyday.

I go home everyday to eat lunch. My commute is 6 miles on country roads. I don't bother to pack in the morning, but I don't want to spend money at lunch either. So I just go home.

I go to Quiznos or Subway or Robek's Juice or our cafeteria every day. I'm way too lazy to bring stuff.

I eat at work.

I would guess I spend $300 a month on food.

Way too much, I know, but every time I've tried to pack lunches I got bored of it within a couple weeks & wasn't really saving all that much money.

According to my Excel spreadsheet, I spend ~$1,200 on weekday lunches and another $1,200 for weekly dinners a year.

i will probably start eating out again when i work fulltime this summer. Preparing yourself a meal in the quantities and quality you can get at places doesn't justify the effort to make it :)

For those of you that bring your own, what kind of sandwiches and other stuff do you pack?

I actually skip lunch and leave an hour early :) My boss is cool with that, and I get out an hour earlier than everyone else, plus I bring something with me to eat while I work. If you think about it, you spend $5-$8 (sometimes more with tip at restaurants) 5x a week, that's $35-$56/week. Most people work about 48 weeks a year, so that's $1680-$2688/year you're blowing on cheeseburgers and subs. With a median cost of $2000 a year on eating out, I'm saving that and buying a wide screen TV ;)

I eat out for lunch pretty much every day unless I have some good leftovers from the night before.
