What kind of gel do you use in your trays? This is for professional strength only stuff. Not Crest or Colgate stuff. Stuff like Nite White Excel 3 by Discus Dental, or products of that nature. Also, what strength are you using? 10%, 16%, 22%? Thanks.

hmm I was considering doing this. can I ask what it cost you to get set up? my dentist says $400 for do-it-yourself trays cast to fit your teeth, 2 weeks of 2 hrs per day. or $600 for one in-office treatment with higher strength solution. smells like a ripoff to me.

I'm not sure how much the trays cost, because I already had trays because I am currently using invisalign. I never more retainers like I was supposed to, so I am doing 6 months of invisalign to get my teeth back perfectly straight. I believe you can get trays for less than 200 dollars, and the gel can be found online by searching google for Nite White Excel 3. I think you can find it as cheap as 24.99 for a refill back of three syringes. If you get the 16% or 22% gel you can really get your teeth white. Call around to other dentists and see if you can get a cheaper price. I was lucky that I already paid for trays, so I am just paying for the gel. I plan to do it for 2 weeks at 16%, and then one week at 22%. After that just touch up every few months.

I use dr George's. I did the top teeth so far (still doing them) Pic
For 10 bucks it's a good deal, but it took me several trys to get a good fit on the trays.

Careful with the stronger gel, it can burn your gums. One visit office trips do work great but they use stronger gels which if aplied wrong can cause a lot of sensitivity. They are expensive because you have to pay for offive overhead while sitting in the chair. Take home kits are more economical but take more work by the patient.

my sister paid about $500 for her custom tray

i asked her why: the gel, in any tray, will fit around your teeth

or am i missing a magic property of gel that it gains in custom trays? theyre not for straightening your teeth or to act as a retainer, just a container for the gel right?

dont recall how much the gel soltion cost her, but the tray was $500; which made me cringe

I paid $500 as well, that was four(?) years ago and it still works like the day I got it, perfect for occasional whitening treatments.

The gel I use is HERE (I can use the 20%, my ex had a hard time with the 10% because she said it burned)

$125 for the custom trays here.

A new dentist opened up and offered a special deal. Same $400 procedure for $125. Really tells you how much they mark that stuff up.

yes; in fact, my sister had to get a crown and couldnt wear her tray because it wasnt the exact same as the tooth, she bitched and fussed...i told her to get a cheap tray and keep using the gel she had from the desntist; dunno if she did or not though

like i said, the stonger gel is probably worth it, but i dont see the point in having a tray molded to your teeth, since the gell should cover all the teeth anyway shouldnt it?
