ok, so i gotta ask. i'm a broke ass bum who wants to get some sandals for the summer season. my options are $30 nike sandals from the sports authority, or $13 cheez ball sandals from payless shoes. what should i do!?!? will the nike's really be worth 2.5x more? decisions, decisions 😕😕😕😕

I've got a pair of $13 cheezeballs from Payless that have lasted about 4 years now, and are about the same in terms of quality as the name brand I had gotten a couple of years earlier. Of course, YMMV.

sorry... i dun have pics (i know i know... that's an AT sin) 😱

anyway... a few years back, i bought like $8 sandals from k-mart. i can say they were truly pieces of crap. broke in like a month. bought another pair... same thing. i haven't purchased brand name sandals before. i was looking at some sandals in the sports authority, and i was really wondering what warrants the higher price... brand name, or really quality? if those nike sandals were to break like in a month, could i really call up nike and have them send me another pair (i've heard ppl claim to do this before)? and is payless shoes a step up from k-mart? hehe 😛

Edited becase I'm slow.😱
For me, it's all about comfort. I've never seen a $10 sandal that I could wear 10 minutes. Teva is my favorite brand of sandal. They often go on sale here, and are very well made.

It probably depends more on how you'll be using them. If you just want some sandals to bum around in, then the cheap ones should be fine. However, if you're going to be more than slightly active (i.e. - walking more than 1/4 mile daily, playing sports in your sandals, etc.) I'd say that the Nikes are worth the extra money. You don't want your feet/legs/back to start hurting because the interior of the sole is mushy, and seams/etc. can start to fall apart before you know it.

I personally have a pair of Doc Martens (awesome comfort and very durable) and a pair of Reeboks that I must have gotten like 8 years ago. I still wear the Reeboks for active type things like going to the lake.

only if you wear them with socks. 😛

My Tevas are 3 years old and they're still good. Very comfortable and no problems with it so far.
They were making sandals long before Nike was, so it might be a good idea to check out the outdoor shops first to see if any of them are having a sale and whether you might like Tevas.

Well, seeing as how I wear sandals every day, all day, I'd suggest spending the extra money on a good pair. I prefer Tevas but right now I'm wearing Nikes; both are very good brands that are tough and will last a long time; cheap ones won't, I know this from experience.

Other than that, the best piece of advice is to be absolutely sure that the sandal you are buying is the most comfortable on your foot; if you experience even the slightest discomfort, select a different brand or model that is the most comfortable.

I've got a pair of Dr. Martens sandals - some of the most comfortable shoes you'll ever buy.

I have a pair of $15 sandals and I am on my 3rd season now with them. Don't waste money on a logo....contrary to popular belief, it won't make you cooler. 😛

Sandals are the greatest. My general rule of thumb is...sandals ONLY and NO SHOES from May - September. 🙂

i got an el cheapo pair from payless shoes or something like that for 14 bucks. i wore those sandals every day as i walked around china... those sandals got a lot of action and i still use them today (a year later). go for the cheap ones!

How come I haven't seen anybody say anything about birkenstocks yet?
