people who wear contact lenses

sometime between wed night and thurs morning, my contact got ripped. i dont remember feeling any wierdness in my eye on wed night. but on thurs morning, i put my right contact in my eye and at first it was a little bit ucomfortable... felt like maybe there was a little debris in my eye. i figured it'd go away after a few mins, but it remained uncofortable for a few hours. so later, i took the contact out, washed my eye out and the contact too. it was then that i noticed a small tear in the contact. that was wierd.... contacts can just tear so easily like that?

It can happen yeah. Most of the time it's just cause you closed the case lid on it and didn't know. That's why I buy the boxed disposables; if one breaks, it's an easy replacement.

Soft ones tear pretty easily. Make sure 1) your hands are most when touching them 2) your eyes are somewhat moist when putting them on 3) inspect them for cuts before putting on and 4) trim/file your fingernails

Yep, I agree. Been wearing contacts for just about 10 years now. I hate them. My eyes dry out SO easily. But I'm blind w/o them in.

99% of the time, contacts tear while you're handling them. (putting them in/taking out/etc)

mine's split once too.
except i wasn't as lucky as you. mine literally disintegrated down the middle. one half went behind my eye from one side, the other half on the other side. it took me a good 15-20 mins to get both pieces out. at least when the contact is whole its easy to bring back from behind your eye cause there's only so far it can go behind yur eyeball. not the case with 1/2 a contact!!

I wear the 2 week ones, and kept using them for about 3 months.......
Well, I went to take them out one night, and it managed to suction itself to my cornea pretty good. I noticed my eye was all red after removing one of the contacts. Then I noticed some sort of flapping clear thing that looked like the contact lens.
Wait, the lens is in my hand.....
I ripped my cornea out in the perfect circumfrence of the contact lens. My eyeball was actually flat as a result. Had to go to the emergency room to have tests and crap done. Well, I thought I could see fine with that eye, but apparently not. They did an eye test, and everything from that eye was upside down. It was a little freaky.
Good news is that the cornea heals itself super fast. Mine grew over (again) in less than 24 hours. They say it is really painful, and gave me vicadin for it, but I never took them. The pain was more of an irritant in my opinion (kind of like bad allergies - or so I thought - doctor thought I was insane for not being in mass amounts of pain).
Anyway, thought I'd share my little - I can wear these disposable contacts for longer than the 2 weeks story. Oh yea, the eye drops they gave me were like a super dark orange dye, and left a really bad stain around my eye for about a week. And talk about nasty eye boogers......

This happened to me too, although mine came apart when I was taking it out, so I pulled out half of it and the other half went way up under my eyelid. It hurt like hell and took about half an hour to get out.
