Well, they paid for it, they can do whatever they want with it. Usually when people in front of me try to recline their seat I subtly put my knees up against it to keep it so it won't budge. Then they creen their neck around to see what's going on and I'm like, oh, that's my knee you're pushing against.

i would say:
"can you move your knee? i would like to recline my seat."Yes

I would say:
"No."

You don't have to ask to recline with me, you just won't be able to. :)

Then I would have to a call a stewardess to ask you to show some fucking manners that your parents never taught you.

No you wouldn't. And even if you did, like other have said, "I paid for the seat," and that is the most comfortable position for me. Now what you'll do next is just sit there in an upright position through the whole flight, just like me.

Yes, I would asshat. I paid for the seat and the airlines has given me permission to recline my seat. If you refuse, I'm sure the stewardess will ask you to move to a seat where you're not going to bother other people. If you don't want to make a scene, learn some fucking manners. So, if the person in front of me reclines their seat, I'm squished b/c an asshole like yourself doesn't believe in manners.

I can tell you're the type that likes to cause problems b/c your parents failed.

You can call her all you want, she isn't going to do anything. What you WILL do though is, sit in an upright position for the whole flight. :)

Wrong again moron.

Go squish a spider? The seats don't even recline that much, if you wanted more room, pay for a higher class seat.

First off, I'm awesome, let's get that straight first. Secondly, you're the person lacking consideration. You know damn well that just about everyone is cramped in those small seats, yet you want to do what makes you feel more comfortable and cause the person behind you with an already minimal amount of leg room to become even more uncomfortable. Don't give me this, "because the person in front of me reclined, that is why I reclined" crap. You reclined because you think you are in your Lazyboy at home. 99% of the time the person in front of you has his seat fully upright.

I "paid" for my legroom, and that's what I'll be using. You try and call the stewardess and I'll say I have to keep my legs like this because I've injured them and you reclining is cause me severe discomfort and would appreciate it if you would quit banging your seat up against my legs. :)

So what you'll do is sit there, upright, all flight long like the inconsiderate person you are.

Wanna bet?

I have had one argument with someone about reclining and have seen many others and I can tell you the flight attendants WILL take my side. If you continue to refuse, they will move you, not me, even if the flight is full. Ever sit in a jump seat for an entire flight? That's just what I've seen happen in other passenger disputes when a passenger refuses to leave another alone.

Do NOT make the mistake of thinking you are right just because you have been able to bully a few meek people on a plane before. It won't happen with me. I'll go to jail before I'll let someone like you take away the seat functions I paid for.

Repeat after me: Your freakish height is not my problem, nor will I ever let you make it my problem.

Now, go to my first post in the thread and see how I proved that leg room does NOT suffer when the seat is reclined. For you to stop a person from reclining or lose space for your knees, even at 6"5', you would have to LIFT your feet off the ground and raise your knees.

I have never been asked by anyone else, and I have never asked myself. I have never seen anyone ask anyone else, either.

You've got it all wrong. I'm not the bully, YOU are. We both have the same space at the beginning of the flight, YOU want to reduce MY space to make yourself more comfortable. And me refusing to let you discomfort me to make yourself more comfortable will not fly with me. You want more room so you can recline like you are at home, YOU buy the more expensive seat. You know damn well it's cramped enough as it is, but you don't care, you want to recline no matter how uncomfortable it makes the other person behind you feel. I'm using the same amount of space as I did when the flight started, you are going to do the same.

And if you want to escalate it, feel free to. I'll take it as far as you want to go.

1. Why buy a more expensive seat when he already has one that reclines? They wouldn't put that feature in there if they didn't want you to use it.
2. He already explained how reclining does not affect your comfort. You're letting your anger cloud your judgment, and you're letting your perceptions make you uncomfortable.

Of course we all know the ethugs who are talking big about not letting the person in front of them recline are not going to do a thing in real life.

Wow, I guess they make seats so small because they are comfortable too. I mean, why would they make them that small? Why shouldn't you take a sh!t on the plane? They have a restroom there. Why would they put one there if they didn't want you to use it. Please, give me a freakin' break. The recline feature is there, but if you are hitting someone, you obviously don't have fvcking room to recline.

He explained it? Are you fvcking serious? That's MY space. Sitting on a freakin' 4 hr flight with your legs perfectly in front of you gets pretty uncomfortable. I'll cross my legs a few times during a flight, and move around. It makes it that much harder to move when someone has their seat fully reclined. There was also a time when I was on a plane where the guy sitting next to me was I'd say 6'5". He was sitting perfectly normal, legs in front and there was NO room for the guy in front to recline. Guess what, the guy in front tried to recline but couldn't because he was hitting the guy's knees. The guy wasn't purposely putting his knees up, he was just tall. The guy behind let the guy in front know, kindly I might add, you are hitting my knees. The guy didn't respond and later on tried to recline even further. Completely fvcking inconsiderate.

Now since I've explained it, will you accept that now?

Of course we all know the ethugs who are talking big about not letting the person in front of them recline are not going to do a thing in real life.

No, we know spineless geeks like yourself won't do anything. Don't try and speak for others.

 No, I'm going to recline my seat. If you have an injury or problem, request the first row seat in economy when you purchase your ticket and have some manners and consideration for others. And if you don't like it, don't fly b/c the airlines provides reclining seats.

Hell, I have an injured back and must recline my seat. As has already been mentioned, your legroom is not compromised. And if you don't allow me to recline my seat, I will have you removed. Not sure what you don't understand, do you not put your seatbelt on when asked to by the airline crew b/c you're too fat to get it around your gut?

So, are you going to tell every seat in every row in front of you not to recline their seats so that no one gets squished? No one you aren't you selfish loser.

The funny thing is I know you've never done this b/c you don't have the balls.

If you have enough room to cross your legs, even when the seat in front of you is fully upright, then there is PLENTY of room for the seat in front of you to recline.

You're right. Listen, this is stupid, I know you geeks love to arguing about this shit on this forum all day long. I guess that's how you get 12000+ posts since 2005 (I actually thought having 10000 post since 2000 was bad). But really, this will go nowhere. You'll say I won't do it, I'll say I will and this will continue on for pages and pages. The difference between you and I is that I'm smart enough to know this is a waste of time.

I've already stated my opinion. If you agree with me, fine. If you don't, feel free to continue arguing about it. Just remember, you ain't reclining with me behind you. ;)

And quit shitting in the airplane restrooms. :p

 Again, how are you going to stop me? You've flown right? Why haven't you done it yet?

Listen, we all know you think you're smart and all but you're just talk on the internet.

If someone doesn't allow me to recline my seat b/c of their knees, I'm stronger than you and will push it back. If you use some device, I will have an airlines attendant ask you to remove it or have you removed.

And you're right, it's really not worth discussing since you have no right to not allow me to recline my seat and the airline will back me up.

If you were so smart, you would do what I have already mentioned and request the first row so you don't have to deal with a reclining seat.

And questioning my post count? Is that the lamest come back you could come up with?

Again, when you grow some balls, let me know.

what I want to know is how does someone sit in those seats WITHOUT reclining? It's just abnormal to sit straight up for hours on end.

The idea is you recline, the person behind you reclines... everyone still has the same space, not to mention more comfort.

The one thing I can't stand on a flight (other than being in a stupidly small enclosed space for hours - damn flying, damn it to hell) is when someone gets up and they put their weight on your seat to pull themself up (and no, it's not for retribution as I've seen numerous people do it on flights). Umm... WTF?! Use your head.

I should add that the only time reclining your seat is not appropriate is when food is still out for everyone.

reclining is not about footroom ...

Here's my take on it - it sucks, I appreciate people having the courtesy not to recline, but i'm not going to cry to ATOT when it happens. The seat reclines so that you can try to be in a more comfortable position for sleeping, my seat can recline, too, as does every other seat on the plane (with a couple of exceptions).

This is coming from a guy who's 6'6", I can't even open most tray tables over my knees, but if the person in front of my goes to recline I don't get pissed off (sometimes it's impossible for that to happen because me knees are already in the back of the seat). I fly mostly short distances, but I've done a couple long-hauls, too (Stl -> Beijing, Shanghai -> Stl, Houston->Paris->Houston) and survived, so can you.
