Yes, somebody had to drive behind a Submissive on the home from work and wasn't very happy about it. Not 41, 42, but 40mph the entire time. Anytime the road went down a slight grade, the Submissive had the brakes on. You'll get struck by lightning if you dare go a hair over 40 even for a split second! :|

Ah, that's better.

Speedlimits are for suckers. If the posted speedlimit is 65mph, i'm going atleast 70. Of course, as soon as my impecible vision see's a black & white vehicle, my speed is back down to under 70 very quickly.

You must be 16, and just have gotten your license. There's a reason there's a speedlimit moron. Sure, the general consunsus is to go slightly over, but if that were legal, don't you think they'd just raise the bloody speedlimit??? Grow up some you twat..

Yeah, I hate people who obey the rules, saving lives sucks ;)

Better than people who scream past ya at 90+MPH!!!! 2 minutes of extra driving is better than being 6 foot under!

I got my first ticket the other day. I was going 60 in a 40. I hate being behind people who go 20 miles under the speed limit. I also hate when you are driving down a road and the people in both lanes are going the same speed right next to each other so you can't pass them. I don't have rage, though. I rarely speed, I just don't like going 20 under the limit.

I remember when I was doing the practice driving thing as a student driver. I was driving down a winding country road at dusk going at least the speed limit. It felt like I was going waaaaaay too fast, and I wasn't under the speed limit, but there would always end up being a line up of about 5 cars behind me tailgaiting because I was going to slow.

But that was then. I'm the one tailgaiting those drivers who go the speed limit now. I hardly ever go the speed limit, unless it's in town with many possible hazards.

I'm not one of the fools who goes 90 on the freeway, but I'll go a little faster than the flow of traffic which would be about 70-75.

yea i only speed on highways where everybody else does too. but i'm a laid back person in general... that might be it. if there weren't other cars on the road, i'd probably take my foot off the gas and just roll around like that sometimes.

To tell the truth, I don't speed in town. Maybe 1 or 2MPH over. But, once I get in or above 4th gear, It's pretty much impossible to stay at 65MPH.

5th gear at 70MPH is pushing something like 8k RPM. With a redline of 14k RPM, it's pretty danged tempting to punch the throttle and be soaring at 100+ MPH. Also, considering how much traffic there is on our highways, there's no difference between 65 & 70MPH in terms of safety. 65MPH will kill you just as fast as 70MPH. After being on the road for 3 years, I can say that 90% of all drivers out here travel inexcess of 65MPH when on the highway. Hell, when I get behind a local cop or highway patrol, he's often doing 75MPH (without his lights on, he being on a normal patrol). As long as I stay behind him, he can't pull me over for speeding.

Yes they do. In residential areas, I never go above 25, but on regular streets I go about 10 miles over the speed limit. Today, I had to hurry and get to school, and this old lady was going 5 miles under the speed limit. I ticked me off so badly, so I just passed her :) If I can't pass, I just beep my horn :)

If you can't pass, just tailgate like a mofo and give em' the ugly look. Sometimes they'll get the point and speed up, other times they may be a pissant and slow down even more. At that point in time, you just find that window of opportunity to pass.

I've been on this board long enough not to expect sympathy when you complain about law abiding behavior.

However, people need to have some sense that when you are driving during rush hour and there's a string of cars tailgating your butt and there's nobody in front of you, hit the darn gas already. Prevent road rage by not encouraging it. That's my plea. It IS a two-way street and people who drive without regard to others around them (that includes people who block traffic by going slower than the "equilibrium" speed) are far from innocent, even if they break no laws on paper.

Driving would be far more pleasurable if people understood the natural flow of the road instead of letting signage create an artificial drag, when experience and instinct suggests otherwise. A stream of evenly-paced cars going 50 in a 40 is a more naturally agreeable sight than a bunch of bottlenecked cars with aggravated drivers plodding along at 40 in a 40. Americans have voted with their right foot that speed limits are problematic and inconsistent and make scofflaws out of millions of otherwise law-abiding citizens each day.

I never drive over the speed limit. I mean, I don't fuss if my foot presses a little too hard and I go 2-3 miles over the limit for a little while, but I generally try to keep right at the speed limit.
Those that don't like it and wish to express their feelings by tailgating me, honking, (although no one has done that yet to me), will get a view of my middle finger.

What far too many people are ignorant of these days is maintaining assured clear distance ahead. I doubt any of those who boast of/condone speeding know (or practice) the recommended # of cars' length clearance to the vehicle ahead at a given speed. Failure to maintain assured clear distance is one of the most lethal driving "practices" on our roads today.

how about something we all can agree on?! We've probably all gotten speeding tickets once in our lives. Do you know cringe at the thought when the dumbass girl drivers speed and get stopped. Only to beat their eyes and poke out their cleavage to get off the hook, not one.. not two. but three. sometimes more.. times.. Its ridiciulous.. oh and i hate (old) people who use their breaks to tap dance to the music. its not right.. and 40 constantly does suck. when ur thinkin about it.. but when you just kind of.. drive.. its not so bad. put on some music or something.. But not on long ass trips when u have to get home. Blow em away if they are ur only obstacle..

<< There's a reason there's a speedlimit moron. >>

You're from Ontario: the last time I was on the QEW, if you weren't going at least 135km/hr, you'd get run over. Maybe you don't know what it's like to drive in the States, home to some of the most ridiculously low speed limits in the civilized world (89km/hr still on many roads...c'mon!).

That's one of America's Paradoxes. Over in Europe, petrol is a fortune, yet you'll see autos zooming around at triple digit speeds and I'm not just talking about Germany. The US has Wide Open Spaces and cheap gas, but has speed limits that are nothing short of ingratiating. Blame it, perhaps, on a driver licensing program that is too easy and puts too many marginal drivers on the road.

Exactly! So if someone is driving too slow for the traffic conditions and has a stack of tailgaters behind them, hit the throttle, will ya? It will keep people from getting too close. Like I said, have faith in the natural flow. Drive with regard to how others are driving. Don't get so obsessed with adhering to the letter of the law at all times. I guess some don't understand how you can just break the law, but I've been driving for 12 years and I've learned a thing or two about how traffic likes to flow: friction-free.

4-5 cars worth of distance is plenty.

What most people don't have is enough experience/practice at avoiding proabable dangers. Compared to Europe, most people feel that it is far too easy to get a license in the US. Take a look at Germany; people consider their license as precious as gold, and for good reason.

If the US had laws that disallowed wreckless teens and blind old-folks (call me whatever you want, but you know it's true) from driving, our streets would be somewhat safer. Even though statistics point towards teen drivers as having the most overall car related injuries/fatalities, I believe that road-rage is the real problem today.

I may drive & take corners fast, but I try to be extremely aware of my surroundings. As one of my driver's ed instructors once said, "Driving is a physical activitity, you've got to move your head inorder to watch your butt; otherwise, you're roadkill." In the past, I've had several people try to merge into my lane when I was right alongside them. Of course, as soon as I see that person begin to move over, I hit the horn and begin to slow down. One time, a person in a 4x4 GMC did this to me. Man, when I hit that horn, it must have scared the crap out of the driver, because he swerved back into his lane so fast I thought he would topple the truck. BTW, a teen driver (18) + sport bike + no warnings & no tickets = a person that is very aware of things.

I usually go around 70 on the highway if there's no one else on it. There's a stretch in town where the speed limit is 45 but most of the time I get stuck behind someone going 30-35. I don't see how hard it is to go at least close to the speed limit.
