I hate how half the states in this country require a "safety inspection". I had a 89 mustang when I moved to NY. To pass the inspection, we had to pay $1100. Was the car safer? Sure. Was it $1100 safer? Hell no. I could have purchased a new car for that.

And don't say i'll get pulled over since the cop will run my plates to see if they're actually expired before pulling me over.

Hah you're just making trouble for yourself smart guy. My stickers got stolen and the cop still pulled me over and gave me a fix it ticket. In fact I got pulled over twice in three days for the same thing even though my registration was up to date.

meh, some people drive with expired tags because they're simply moving the car from one place to another.

In that case, they could get a temp transfer permit by showing insurance.

Otherwise they are still breaking the law.

In Arizona, you can request a temporary 3 day pass online. It costs $1 and you can print it out at home after filling out the form online.

My plates this year cost $400 in Arizona for my car. Now, if I chose to instead get a temp pass every three days, that would cost me $122 plus ink and paper for one year.

Try it a second time and it will probably get rejected.

Well, my Mustang has a tag from 2003, but I've drove it all of 10 miles in the past year. I've got an updated tag on my Audi and will have one on the new car, but I had to fight the Jefferson County revenue office to not charge me late fees + interest while the Mustang was out of the country. It took awhile to get that dispute resolved, because until the Tax Collector stepped in with rationality -- his little minions claimed they could tax property out of their jurisdiction (which they cannot). I still have insurance on all the vehicles though, and I'll be getting a tag for it soon.

I feel they probably don't have insurance either and one day they will cause a wreck with me and be my problem.

It would be more annoying if it where hard to get them though that is not the case here (WA state). I go online, order/pay for my tags, and on lunch go to the DOL thats .1 miles from my office, grab the tags, and am out the door. If I need an emissions test that place is .3 miles the other direction from work, so that is easy as well.

In CA these people are agressively ticketed and fined. CA doesnt let you FVCK with their revenue stream

I'll sidestep the arguement, but thanks for the reminder!

I have my tags but haven't put them on yet...

Hmmm, wonder if I just keep'em in the glove box and pull'em out if pulled over if I'd still get a ticket or if I can laugh maniacally in the face of law enforcement and hold up the tabs at the crucial moment... Nah, I don't think I'll find out.

really, i dont care if those people try to skirt the law or not

i think they are foolish and asking for trouble. its such a headache to get tickets for that kind of stuff, i just prefer to be legit.

its not impacting my safety, so i really dont concern myself with it too much
