People who do interviews: Quick tips for second interview!

Have a second interview today, its with an IT firm for a network admin position, focusing mostly on windows 2000/2003 and Citrix servers.

I know the second interviews are more technical, and I'm nervous a bit about them asking some questions that I might not be able to pull an answer out without actually sitting at a server. How technical do you get with your questions?

Finally what are some good questions for me to ask in the 2nd interview? I've already got typical day, typical problems, training offered to employees, and when the next decision would be made regarding the position.

Any insight you can offer is great, I'm trying to be as prepared as possible!

I can get pretty technical, but I form the questions to experience on resume. I don't disregard people if they can not answer all my technical questions. I like to see how the person thinks during the interview. Often you can still show intelligence even if you do not know the answer. Do not shoot a bunch of bull if you do not know the answer. I rather hear "I have no experience with that" or "I can't recall" than some rambling answer that shows the person is full of crap.

If second interview is with different people then you can ask some of the same questions as before.

Good luck.

Get specific info on benefits. Also, I wouldn't sweat the techical stuff so much as long as you know where to look for the answers. Cleary, you can post on at&t for all your citrix winframe solutions.

2nd interviews can be less formal and more comfortable. Your foots in the door now, try to keep it out of your mouth and you might just get hired.

Good LUck!!

Thanks for the tips. I'm leaving here in 10 mins to head home and get ready, have to put on the damn suit again. Interview is 2 hours from now, I will post an update when I finish.

What port does ICA communicate on? Why is ICA better than RDP?
What is a virtual channel?
What is IMA?
Why would you need zone data collectors?
If you want to support launching applications externally, how would you secure them?
What are some of the benefits of client/server computing?

🙂

For a second interview, act interested in the job/company but don't be overzealous. Be confident in your replies but admit when you don't know something. NEVER answer with an excuse like "oh I didn't get around to learning that." Turn it around and say "I never had a chance to work with that but I've heard a lot about it." For questions you ask them, don't sound like you are centered around yourself - sound like you are centered around your FIT with the job. Asking about training offered to employees (unless this is really a big concern of yours) sounds like you are just using the job as a stepping stone. Ditto with questions like what are the work hours, etc. Ask things more along the lines of how many people will you work with directly? What is their experience level? What sorts of things do they think you contribute, and what sorts of things will they be wanting you to pick up right away (so you can brush up on them) etc.
