people who constantly get rid of their pets.

ugh! this is the most annoying thing in the world. I'm sure we all know people who get a puppy and then it gets big or is too noisey or pees some place and then they get rid of it.. then they get a bunny and "oh no bunnies smell" (well duh!) so they get rid of that.. and then they get a cat and it tears up the sofa so they get rid of that.. then they go back to dogs or whatever.

I hate this! When you get a pet, especially a dog or a cat, you stick with it! There are very very few reasons for a person to get rid of an animal, its like getting rid of a family member. When people do this once it is kind of annoying but maybe understandable but I know families who do this over and over again with all kinds of different pets! First of all, if you get a pet, research it first. Second of all THINK about wether or not you have the time to even have a pet and train/take care of it properly. third of all, if it didn't work out the first time, what makes this time so different?!

Ugh, my neighbour is thinking about getting another dog. They have had 2 dogs, bunnies, hampsters and a bird in the past 5 years and they have gotten rid of every single one. I think it is cruel to bring a dog into your home and then just get rid of it like that.

You neighbor should be beaten with a large stick or tire iron, whatever is handy.

It's PATHETIC. It's actually one of the worse non-violent traits in human beings to be like this. I lament for their children, and the love they inevitablyl don't get. I knew a guy who bought a dog at university and had it for two years then gave the thing away because he realized it wouild hurt his ability to get good housing later, plus it was costly (he was too cheap to get it fixed and it would lick itself all the time and hump everything).

Well, thanks for making me feel good. We're having to get rid of our cats because our son's asthmas has gotten so bad. :(

Too bad you can't send your psychaotic children to the animal shelter.

I think your neighbors are imbeciles. Either you want pets or you don't. They need to figure out which way they want to go.

That's a much better reason than just getting tired of a pet.

I will also do that when we have kids. Kids will say they will take care of a dog, but we all know that will last roughly 2 months and then it will be all your problem.

yep...i think thats sucks too...friend of mine had a dog that she got tired of taking care of, so they got rid of it and bought a new puppy that day. personally i think she is a looser. i own two dogs, and sure there are days when i wish i didnt have the responsibility..but i committed myself to taking care of the two of them...and that's what i will do.

pix of my girls...

We tried to get rid of them once already. Had a lady come by and adopt two of the three (Hobbes and Pigpen). Six weeks later, Pigpen shows up at our backdoor in an emaciated state. I lost the lady's info so I couldn't find out what happened or if she still had the other one. We were unable to adopt away the third (Missy) so we've had two for a year and a half now. Going to be hard to try and give away Pigpen again. Her brother wants him but I'm not sure if he's responsible enough.

that is one of the acceptable reasons for getting rid of a pet.. now if you were to get some more cats in a year or so then that might be a different story.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an animal lover. An animal sorta-like-them'er, maybe, but not lover. The following is based off what I have seen among neighbors and friends.

I think that if they got the animal from the shelter, if it isn't working out then they have every right to take it back and try another. Especially when you're not always sure exactly how the pet will react to your home environment. I'd say that a 2-4 week trial would be reasonable.

I've seen some animals that have come from the shelter that are horribly socialized, or that have big behavioural problems. If I don't have the knowledge, expertise, time, or money to properly treat a dog with problems, I'd take it back.

But, people who buy puppies or kittens, and then abandon them when they grow up, are horrible people.
