Im trying to get 2 circular pieces of wood (2.5 feet in diameter) and 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch thick.

normally I would cut this out of a bigger piece of wood, but I am currently in an apartment and dont have the tools here... Im going to Home Depot soon and I think they rent tools, but dont think the neighbors would like too many power tools in my apartment.

How would you go about getting these?

Ironically enough, home depot does sell round pieces of wood, but I'm not sure if they will have what you're looking for. (offhand I can't remember if it is pine or like particle board that they sell, but I suspsect it is particle board.. don't know if that would do what you need)

If you're infact wanting to make a nice wood-topped table, there ARE craft stores out there that might have what you're looking for... but would you consider glass? You can pick up glass table tops fairly cheap at places like pier 1.

If Home Depot rents tools, hopefully they have a nice battery-powered jig saw. Take the wood to the parking lot and cut your circle out - then, you apartment neighbors can't say anything about the tools.

I was at a home depot today in iowa and they had round table tops made out of wood I did not check the price but they were pretty nice.
