People that were in the armed forces, got a Q

What is the shortest sign up to enlist. 2, 3, 4,... years??? I know you sign a contrat and have to stay at least a certain time, I didn't know what it is for each branch or if it is even different??

Thanks

I signed up for six. 4 is still the minimum I think, but I believe there are 2 year re-enlistments. Your best bet is to ask a recruiter.

Air Force has a deal now where you can do 2 years...

Really, I will have to look into that.

The real reason I ask is I would like to do the officers school program, I have a college degree, but was hoping that I could do something in the 2 year range. 4 is really pushing.

Anybody else?

The 2 years will start after you finish your technical school and reach your first duty assignment. They want to limit the available jobs to tech school that are under 6 months long. You also would get the option for the GI Bill for college, just it would be around half of the normal amount.

Most two years programs, The navy, Army, and airforce all have had them in the recent past, you get NO tech school and your benifits after you get out will be much worse than if you were to do a full 4/4.

But the 2 year is the same as a 4 year as far as open doors for officer school, etc... right it just is 2 years instead of 4.

I am not worried about benifits, but I would like to eneter officer school for one of the armed forces but would not want to sign away 4 years of my life. Now 2 would be OK, and at the end if I wanted to stay I could longer.
