WTF?! :|

The audacity of these people. :| I feel like cussing them out.
I guess they aren't really "friends", but more like good acquaintances? Regardless, I feel like I'm only being asked to go out w/ them sometimes, just because I have something they need.:|

Example #1
Asked to go out to play baseball. I have plans, I'm doing something else... celebrating my birthday w/ family (this is in a couple days in advance). I'm the only one w/ baseball stuff like extra gloves, catchers mitt, bases, etc. After telling them I can't go days in advance, they call me that day to ask me if they can borrow my stuff. I meet up with them later though at a restaurant, and they pretend its someone else birthday for a free cake. (Gee thanks, oh well).

Example #2
We go camping annually. I'm ALWAYS driving on long trips. I think its only because I have a van that I can pretty much drive anytime I want to. Never compensated gasthat I was told would be, never compensated money that people BORROW. (No biggie, I don't need the money, but to me people should still offer.)

Example #3
Asked if wanted to rent a cabin in Big Bear. I said no thank you, and please stop e-mailing updates about it. They continue to and its basically like spam (since so many people reply to all). Some continue to w/ junk messages just to annoy me even though I asked kindly. I get irratated and spam them each time they do so to me. After I have some choice words when someone tell ME to "grow up". And now I just get a message "Can we borrow your tire chains for tomorrow?" WTF?!

And of course, I'm not even going to mention incidents about "computer help" which I'm sure everyone has been tortured with.

I think people like these made me a cynical ass. I'm being used for my generosity. Next time, they are going to hear it from me. :|:|:|

Sounds like you could solve your problem by not letting them hear anything from you.

#1.......say no and don't let them borrow your stuff.

#2.......let THEM fill your tank before you leave next time or whenever you do it...that way you won't have to worry about them paying you back. They'll be paying up front.

#3......E-mail filters work wonders.

I'm going to add #4.....quit bitching. People are people. That's life. ;)

Hey Grim,

Imagine how much use you would be without those items. Be glad you have friends at all.

Nobody can take advantage of you without your consent.

I second that. Grow a pair and tell people what you think when they ask you to do stuff you dont want to do. Then quit adding yourself to the ever increasing list of whiney sh!tholes who feel the need to post crap like this rather than confront their problems directly with those responsible.

Look. When I'm being kind and generous to friends/acquaintances I don't expect to get used. Sorry if I believe in the kind-hearted nature of people, but I would think this stuff is common sense. Don't ask me for stuff or only talk to me when you need me. That is being used. Friendship should be a two-way thing no?

I do have choice words for them. But I'm often seen as the insensitive @ss for this. :|

The problem is that there are lots of people who will prey on the kinder members of society, and abuse them until the till is dry and move on.

Sometimes you just have to be a jerk.

WOW! You've seemed to have it all figured out...now why dont you take that same energy and those same words and TELL THE FRIGGIN PEOPLE YOUR MAD AT HOW YOU THINK!!

Tough toenails! Let'em know how you feel about it so it doesnt get as outta hand as it sounds like you've currently let it. Worry less about how they feel and more about what you want to do.

im in complete agreement with sluggo here, but Im also prone to being the "nice" guy too often. I let myself be used and then kick myself for it later on, altho Im a lot better now after I started standing up against that crap

Thats funny, everyone at work can tell when I am in the mood to give an ass-chewing, they give me a wide berth, lest they be the unlucky SOB who gets it.
