Yes, I agree. Over time people in general seem to think hey I pay taxes taxes maintain these areas hence I can take something if I want. Shitty and irresponsible attitude. A good example of why this is the case. In Durham NC Aug. 2017 A confederate statue was pulled down. Now regardless of the reason for pulling it down, the act itself was vandalism which is a crime. It maybe a federal crime since it was on a state campus but I am not sure. Anyways the perpetrators were identified, but in the long run no one was charged. Now again this year it happened again in Chapel Hill NC. When you stop holding people responsible for their actions there is inevitably going to be unforeseen consequences. It goes with out saying. Also I believe harder down the line to then hold someone responsible. I am just using the Statue thing as an example, nothing more. With the resent climate of them or us/for or against no middle ground I tend to stay out of the way since it seems NO ONE is willing to talk anymore. You will either be labeled a SJW Snowflake or a Alt-right nazi racist. I do see why think that and agree wholeheartedly with you. There are good people, but unfortunately we are far out numbered by the others.

Most people don't like themselves. Now, if they don't like themselves how do you think they are going to treat nature and other people?

In my teenager days I volunteered at Great Falls National park for the summer. Got a badge for my shirt, and some green olive pants and I was almost a ranger. It was awesome for a 17 year old. I would hike the trails picking up small amounts of trash checking on tail conditions and assisting other hikers. I see the program is still going on. Here are ways you can do something to help at you local park.
