im sorry, i just wanted to vent a little bit.

ok, so i work in a hospital, and am forced to park in the hospital garage because its the only place around to park. i dont even have a pass, but have to pay for my parking every single day. so it adds insult to injury everyday after a long hard day of work to walk out and have to pay for my parking after slaving for the man all day. i think this is ridiculous, but whatever.

so two weeks ago, i walk out to my car (mercedes slk230). i go to throw my bag in the passenger side, when i see a foot long key mark in the car. what kind of a-hole would do this for no reason? i have no enemies at the hospital, it was just some jackass that felt like keying my car.

now, it gets worse. friday night, after a 13 hour day, i walk out to my car which was parked on the end of a row so i wouldnt get anymore dings. i find that someone took the corner too sharply to turn onto the ramp to the next level, and hit my car. the bumper is all messed up, and the brakelight is broken. the car is still drivable, but i need to get it fixed now. no one stopped, no one left a note. they just hit my car and left. so i called out the university police to file a report. the lady cop was being super lazy, and didnt even want to get out of her car because it was cold out. From the window of her car, she told me i probably shouldnt even have her file a report because "its alot of paperwork, we'll never find the person who did it, and itll probably make your insurance go up". what kind of bs is that?

well, thats my rant, and thats why some people suck.

wow that does suck. I've had both of my rear fenders scraped by people who can't park, I guess it's something you have to learn to deal with.

Do they have security cameras?

Sorry to hear about what happened with your car. I had my front bumper severely damaged once when my car was just parked by the curb.

I feel your pains.

I don't have anybody ran over my SUV yet but have a few dings on the doors from buttholes that didn't care to damage other people's properties.

no security cameras. that was the first thing i checked out. you think they would get them if stuff like this happens. one of my friends also had his car keyed there.

security cameras would be a great idea, but that would make too much sense now wouldnt it

it's sad when you have to decide to buy a not-so-nice car instead just because there are people who have no respect for other people's property. It's ridiculous... but that's the way it goes.

I was ding free for 5 years... surprised it lasted that long.

BTW, I never park in corner spots for that reason. Hell no.

Do you have any idea how badly I've wanted in-car cameras that catch almost every angle ?

Because people get so anal and displace their anger on people when their precious little toys (read: penis machines) get messed up.

The female cop is right, why burden the system with minor damage to your car. Security cameras are a unwarranted expense for a parking garage. Mabey a couple here and there on the entrance/exits and the money collectors booth. Beyond that is really pointless, there is no true business need to have them. Due to its location, people will park their cars there anyway.

I agree that the situation sucks, and people keying cars is incredibly lame. Though you and just about everyone else out there knows when your personal property isn't located on your real property(home) it is at risk. You accept this risk by registering the car with the state to drive on public roads and paying the insurance fees.

Good luck with it.

are you serious? burden the system? maybe she should be out doing more important things like looking for someone to give a parking ticket to? i guess your right. i shouldnt care about the 2-3 thousand dollars of damage done to my car. i shouldnt want to file a report to try to stop the person who did this. i shouldnt expect the police to do their job b/c it would be a burden to them system. your right, a hit and run isnt important

You pay for insurance for a reason. I'm not sure the full scope of the universtiy police force there, so I cannot say for sure if they typically have more pressing matters. Call up the NYPD and file a hit and run report without getting laughed at.

Even under under the incredibly unlikely circumstances of the police finging the person who hit your car, it's not going to accomplish much. It's either your insurance paying it, or theirs. Either way everyone loses out in end.
Being caught for a hit and run most likely won't deter people from doing it again. It's basically human instinct to run away from potentially threatening situations.

I take offence to fast cars being called penis machines. You don't call a roller coaster a penis machine..... but it's the same thing....

Now if you want to talk about penis machines, talk about SUV's. Leave the yachts and fast cars (that are actually used the way they are meant to be) out of this.

I believe this guy genuinley loves driving that car, and for a lot more than you degrade him to be by calling it a status symbol. He should be respected for that.

At the same time, he needs to understand that by using such a nice car as a daily driver, a lot of less considerate and less fortunate peole (who think the latter justifies the former) will lash out at him, seeing him as a symbol of the hand behind their misfortunes. However wrong this is, it's life and the reason I can never see myself spending more than $10k on a daily driver again (dont forget problems stemming from car accients too). I can see myself having a nicer sunday driver though... even though I set a low standard for that..... the new mustang GT manual would be perfect :)

You don't own a roller coaster, so it's not the same thing. I'm having a really hard time understanding the parallel you're trying to draw with a roller coaster.

I wasn't degrading this person at all, I was posting that statement in response to fobot and mosquerade's exchange. I was making a statement in general about people, and their pathetic attachment to material goods. Usually in these cases this attachment is coupled with their expectations of everyone else to share in that same vain emotion of material attachment.

I had the mirror on my two week old 2004 subaru broken off while it was parked in front of my house. The same car had a crack put in the blinker and a ding in the hatch in a parking lot.
So I feel the pain, but realistically there isn't much you can do about it, and getting pissed off about it accomplishes nothing but raising your bloodpressure and shortening your already fleeting lifespan.

We are agreed on your second and third paragraphs, but it is very important to recognize that while some people literally buy cars to show off of have some kind of material/brand affiliation in their life, some people really do have a relationship with their car that trancends that....

I for one greatly value my car and it's cornering/acceleration abilities.... as oxymorinc as it must sound, it's one of my safe places when I need to unwind.... there's something soothing about breaking your back end loose while maintaining complete control over your car while you skid your way down the brookside backroads with the sun setting over your shoulder... That my friend, has nothing to do with a status or compensation. Mustang owner. I won't give that car up until I'm neutral rolling it into a scrap yard.

I still don't understand the roller coaster comment fully, but I believe I can see how you are alluding to it.

I agree with you on loving to drive a car. Though that still doesn't change the fact that it's still an item. It's fixable, it's replaceable, it's insured.
