~ Ranting Thread ~

What's with people, more commonly females aged 18-21, saying that their University-level coursework is taking up 100% of their freetime?

Really, working casher at Panera for 3 hours a day and majoring in some BS Comm. Arts subject is THAT time consuming?

I double major in Information Systems and Computer Science, also intern as an IT auditor and I still don't know WHAT to do with all my free time. ~ Still maintaining a 3.9 GPA

Obviously, in some situations, people say this just to avoid hanging out with another person... But I see this all too much on facebook status's and twitter pages.

some people just are not effective at efficient time management. 5 minutes here, there, of ineffective working adds up very quickly to losing hours of time per day because they are spending time updating their facebook/twitter while browsing "Quickly" through everyone else's status updates.

Well they're working on degrees that actually take work...

Sometimes it does suck down people's time.

Other times, people don't want to tell others what they were up to and need to fill the time gap with something. Thus "Yesterday, my boyfriend and I humped like rabbits for about 5 hours, then I played some Farmville for 3 more, then studied for about an hour and a half, then watched myself in the mirror while I brushed my hair for an hour" turns into "I was studying all day."

If it doesn't your degree is to easy or your university sucks. :p

Well maybe not everyday but towards the end of the semester that really should be the case.

I've known some nurses and they sure as hell spend lots of time studying and doing homework. The communications/human resource/business majors were at the parties. Too bad because the nurses are more fun to party with.

Some people just finish schoolwork faster. I took virtually identical classes to my girlfriend in college and I finished the work substantially quicker than her; I was well-suited to doing assignments quickly. On the flip side, she was much more sociable and outgoing than I was as a general rule; it came easier to her while I had to work at it. Everybody has their skills.

Some people just suck at time management. I worked 40 hours/week as a professional with 10 hours/week of commute time while going to grad school (20 hours/week in-class time) with a newborn at home and still managed to get everything done and graduate early.

In addition the comments noted here (bad time management, making excuses, etc), I'll add 3 more:
1) some people are stupid, but dedicated. if you're dumb as a brick, it'll take you much longer to get through school work
2) some people go to difficult schools or take difficult classes & aren't smart enough to be in the group that can still breeze through
3) some people are crazy perfectionists that want to make sure they know everything like the back of their hands/care a ton about their classes

People usually procrastinate to the point where it does take up all of their free time. But when it's like a month of free time followed by a week or two of hell, it's pretty obvious which is going to be remembered.

My concept of time sucks. What feels like 10-15 minutes was really like 45. For Instance I spent most of yesterday doing calculus homework each section felt like it took me half an hour really it was an hour and a half.
