so, I'm watching tonight's Intervention on my dvr and a commercial just came on for this: Text

get it? because 9+11=$20 in Liberia

w. t. f.!?

I don't know what's worse... the fact that someone actually had the balls to make this or that some jack ass is going to buy it.

They actually featured this as an "Epic Fail" on Attack of the Show in the last week or so.
It doesn't bother me on that level, it just bothers me because it's stupid.

Welcome to capitalism, where nothing is off limit. Your example is small fry compared to what the big boys are doing to rake in the millions.

I just noticed that too a little bit ago. First time I noticed that commercial, I was like WTF is up with a 7 year anniversary? Second time, I noticed the end had a disclaimer they are not associated with the U.S. Govt, mint, or treasury... When I saw it just a little bit ago, I paid more attention and when they mentioned it was Liberian currency, I was a bit shocked. Don't know what to make of it.

A lot of "collectible" (worthless) pseudo-currency comes from Liberia.

Sooo, Liberia is like Nigeria, except they try to get you to buy their fake money instead of just give them money? *brainfart*

I hear a lot of bickering for a 'free market' on these boards, well here you go, deal with it.

Lots of people are making tons of money over 9-11. DHS has built an empire. Billions upon billions have flowed to weapons contractors and military researchers. Universities, state and local governments, and large private sector businesses have been showered with "preparedness funds" over the last seven years. 9-11 is big bucks.

If it wasn't for WWI and WWII the History Channel wouldn't exist. Might take that up with them.

I saw the commercial too and thought the same. It was funny how much detail they went into to try and sell this thing.

Free market and having a moral compass are two seperate things.

They report to their shareholders, and no one else. Doing what you think is right/wrong ends when you don't have all the shares.

This is just the same situation as when people are handing out bibles in public, just on a smaller scale. The difference is that 9/11 is an event that the whole world knows, and the US felt the pain of, and so more people hate people profiting off of it.

I think that no matter what happens, someone makes money. It might just be the media station who is first to report it, or maybe all the educational videos that are created to teach about it in schools, but one way or another, someone makes money. I don't see it as an issue, just a fact of life. This doesn't make it right or wrong though, it's just something that happens.

The only moral compass of a free market is profit. You can like it or not, but that is what a free market capitalism is. If you limit it by morals or regulations, it's no longer a free market.

It's not as bad as the 'jumper' baseball cards that some jackass came up with featuring the people who jumped out of the WTC rather than burn to death.

Everyone has a different definition of obscene. This is the OP's.

Ahhahahhahah. I didn't even think about that. Hell, in the commercial they say that for the "limited time" they are selling them at face value.
