People on food stamps make me mad.

I work graveyards as a cashier at a grocery store. There are a lot of people that are on foodstamps that shop at night. One in particular makes me mad as hell.

We have one of those claw machines for 50 cents a play. I watched one lady spend twenty bucks in the thing without winning anything. She goes grocery shopping and "spends" $200 in food stamps. THEN, she goes back to the claw machine and puts another twenty in the machine. People like this PISS me off. She is on welfare and spends all of her money in a claw machine.

Another thing that irritates me are the people who buy 4 or 5 live lobsters with food stamps.

These welfare people live better than me :|

I used to work at a grocery store too. People would come in, buy food with their food stamps, then spend up to $20 or even $50 on lottery tickets (about twice a week), as well as alcohol and cigarettes :|

I heard somewhere that if you win and they find out that you bought the lotto tickets with food stamps, they can disqualify you. Is this true? It probably isn't because if it was true, they wouldn't allow them to buy it in the first place.

Yeah that pisses me off too. You're not alone. I *hate* seeing these lazy no-good people take up space in this world. They complain that there aren't enough jobs out there but all I see are "Now Hiring" signs posted everywhere I go. People come to this country so they can take advantage of the tax payers who work hard to earn their living.

OMG I've never heard of someone playing one of those machines that many times. Spending 20 bucks on it?! That's beyond my ability to comprehend, it's so sad.

I thought it was a federal law that you couldn't buy nicotine and alcohol products with food stamps?

In that case I think that it's the stores fault for letting them purchase it :frown:

There are a lot of people who are on food stamps that shouldn't really be getting them. But there are also a lot of them who really need them.... but I don't have any respect for the ones who need them because they have too many children. If someone is stupid enough to have too many kids that they can't afford then they shouldn't cry about not having enough money. Maybe they should make these people take birth control if they want to get any support from the government.

Thoes are the people who abuse the system.
There will always be them in every circumstance.
But there will be the people who really need the help.
Lots of poeple that get food stamps still hold a normal job.
But just can swing it without help.
How many CAN swing it, but just choose not to. Who knows.
Mabey bush will make some good reforms on welfare, AHAHAHAAHHA
but then again, probably not.

I think what they're saying is that these people use food stamps to buy their food, but they obviously do have cash, because they proceed to blow it on lottery tickets, smokes, etc. So they're not technically using their food stamps to buy those things, but then if they have enough money to waste on other things, why are they getting food stamps?

They don't purchase those type of things with food stamps. They use cash...

Actually she spent $40. $20 when she walked in and $20 when she walked out. AND she didn't win anything...

Once upon a looooong time ago, I was on foodstamps because I really needed to be. Times were tough for me and jobs weren't all that plentiful. I was grateful for their existence, they got me through a pretty sad time in my life.

But there are two sides to this coin. One day I was reduced to seeking edible aid from The Salvation Army. I was on foot and ended up having to carry two extremely heavy bags of food all the way across town, stopping many times along the way because my arms felt like they were pulling out of my shoulder joints. But before I actually began my journey from TSA, a beautiful Cadillac pulled up, some guy in very expensive looking clothes went in, came back out a little later with two armloads of Salvation Army food, got in his big beautiful Cadillac, and drove off:|

That little scene made me question the morals of some people, while I was busy being totally disgusted with that guy. I mean, if he's so down and out that he has to go to TSA for food, why in h*ll didn't he sell that gas-guzzling pimp-mobile for a few much needed groceries and maybe pay a few bills???

Needless to say, my life has greatly improved since then, but this thread reminded me of that day, a looooong time ago..... -kd5-

Once again, the case of "surfing and working" has made me missinterpret a line :(

I do agree with everyone, people who are on food stamp aide, and use their extra cash to purchase certain "necessities" such as beer, cigarettes, and lotterty tickets is proof that some sort of reform needs to be made.

Coming from a family who used to receive "gubment" cheese and milk, I can say that there are some people who do not abuse the priveledge.

I see people all the time that NEVER abuse their Food Stamps. I am not saying people need it. I just hate the people who blatantly abuse it...

I think we are all disgusted with these type of people. Here in Canada a lot of people abuse the welfare system. They get their monthly checks and at the same time they work part time or even full time, paid only in cash (no records). I REALLLY dont like these people.

Recently the Ontario gov'ment proposed the welfare recipients should be clean of drugs. and to think, some people PROTESTED against this! I do believe those are the people that have something to hide. :|

Its the same deal as with panhandlers that already have salary jobs making 50K + a year.
Sad but true reality.

grrrrrrrrr.... i was going to post a message saying how much i hate welfare people sometimes. i hate seeing these fat mothers buying all this junk food, while i don't have enough money to buy fresh fruits and vegatables =[. i do believe that some people need to be helped out, but why not prohibit them to only staple food products: fruits, vegatables, grains, meats, etc. healthy food mainly which is cheaper than junk food. i realize that eating beans, rice and vegatables would be quite a downgrade from these people's lavish diets, but hey if you want the good stuff you should have to earn it.

if this sounds a bit harsh its because i just got back from the grocery store where i witnessed a big fat whopper with a kid buying dr pepper, cookies, potato chips, ice cream and other various crap. =[

unfortunately, this is a situation the government CAN HANDLE, but wat is the cost/benefit of tracking everyone of those who use and abuse the system.

I agree, people who abuse the system should BE PUNISHED (especially those mom's with like 5+ children), but unforunately, there is no imeediate solution to the problem.

Also, typically, those who play the lotto are of lower income who continue to dream of living the lavish lifestyle...

People who WERE on foodstamp, but worked HARD AS HELL to get off and contribute to society, I bow down and have utter RESPECT...to the others who use and abuse, there are times when I believe in "population control" ;)

Anybody who spends more than 1% of their take-home income on lotteries is a _goddamned idiot_. These people should not be on food stamps if they have the money to play the lottery. Hell, I don't even play it. What are they doing?

Why is it that whenever I see folks marching (for the TV cameras) there seem to be a large number of extremely obese people holding signs (and screaming curses loudly) saying that they need more assistance, it isn't fair blah blah blah. Talk about achieving the opposite of what you intend. Most taxpayers see that rabble behaving in that sort of manner and completely harden their hearts toward the plight of ALL (allegedly) poor people.

Personally, I prefer to donate cash to organizations such as Food for the Poor and Catholic Charities. Those folks really help truly poor people, with no fooling around. Example: One Saturday last summer we noticed an obviously poor (and intoxicated and puffing butts) couple (with dirty young children) moping around the church parking lot before Mass. I felt sure that they would be asking our Priest for assistance, and fully expected that Father would give them a few bucks to get them down the road. How wrong I was!

After Mass we saw them receiving a tongue-lashing from the priest. He was telling them that "no I won't give you money ... "I can get you meals and gas and a place to sleep, but I am not going to give you money." Now these folks looked absolutely pitiful ... but our Priest (whom I have never ever seen behave in anything except the most mild and charitable manner) was really incensed at the man (and woman's) insistence that they needed cash ... that they didn't have time to go to the Catholic Charities shelter/assistance center. The Priest really laid into them, telling them that he wanted to help but they could not expect to booze and smoke and expect handouts. He also told them that their children (unkempt and dirty) needed them to set an example.

Anyway, these people went on their way cursing our Priest and the few parishoners that ran into this altercation.

I will never voluntarily give to governmental agencies (including United Way) that purport to help the poor. They just don't have the moral backbone and conviction to require that people wanting help have to make some effort to be responsible in order receive help. Any other strategy engenders further dependency and reinforces the natural tendency of most people to scam others rather work. - I will change my mind about this when the government first weighs the people to establish the fact that they are suffering from malnutrition ... then if they qualify, give them something like a Nutribar (Soylent Green anyone).

Wow people! Maybe you should just build prisons, oh wait a second, that's exactly what you're doing. My bad.
