Hey, quick questions for out WA ATOTers.
You guys have no state income tax. That's great. In fact, it means with us considering moving up there, we can afford a much nicer place relative to Oregon (9% state income tax).
Is it going to stay, though? Oregon, for example, 'has no sales tax'. However, several of our cities and municipalities have instituted sales taxes already, and there is frequent talk of the state finally imposing a statewide sales tax.
Hence, my questions on Washington - we can afford an $xxx, xxx dollar house presuming that $500 a month we get to keep instead of paying to the state. If we BUY a house at that cost, then WA decides to finally join the rest of the Union and impose a state income tax....well, things would get rather uncomfortable quickly.
SO....thoughts? How likely is it WA will ever impose a state income tax? Anytime SOON? (Obviously, years and years down the road will have promotions and debt paid off offset the potential lost take-home pay).
