People in MD with Tint

I had 35% (legal limit) on my last car, and now want to get my new car tinted.

My question is:

If I had the exact legal limit on my car before and was never questioned about it, can I get away with 20% this time? Anyone from MD that has tint want to chime in?

I'm not trying to go limo or anything, just a bit darker.

Number wise 35 to 20 doesn't seem that much but there's a pretty big difference in the actual darkness of the film. On 35% film you can still see inside quite well on a sunny day but can barely make out the outline of the driver with 20%.

With it being much more noticeable I don't know if I would risk it. If you get cited you'll have to pay a fine and have it remove/replaced and possibly having to pay again to have it redone legally.

Yeah, you make some good points.

I see people driving around with pitch-black windows and wonder, do they just deal with the fines over and over again?

Depends on how the rest of your car is.

If it's a sporty car, expect more than your share of police attention
If it's red or some loud color, expect to get pulled over
If it's modded on top of the illegal tint, expect to be ticketed and (wallet) raped on a very consistent basis

If it's just some family sedan that's otherwise stock, no one will care

It's a black 2008 Accord V6 Coupe, where does that land me?

I don't see the point in tempting the law, even if you just get harassed instead of a ticket. I would go with one step below the max, then you won't get hassled period.

More likely than not you'll be fine. In Cal, the cops tend to enforce it only on modded vehicles and in Northern VA where I lived for a while, police really didn't care. It was a very lasseiz faire attitude in northern VA(Annadale, Falls Church and Fairfax cops have better things to do).

You'll probably get at least 1 or 2 tickets over the few years you keep your car but it won't be too bad.

Also, I don't really plan on modding anything on the car. If I do anything, it would be internal or performance, not cosmetic (besides the tint, of course).

My recommendation on tint is always to stay within the legal limits. Why give the police the option of tacking it onto a speeding ticket or other other minor traffic stop?

Exhausts any louder than stock are dead giveaways to police and will get them on your tail looking for any excuse to ticket you.

Lucky for me I hate aftermarket exhausts! Well, some are okay, but 95% blow.
