People in CA, where do you buy your computer stuff and not get taxed?

Fuzzy - am in Arizona, so West Coast stores still work. But, I used to buy most of my stuff from Multiwave. Then they got acquired by Insight, which is in AZ. That killed that!

I have gotten lots of HDDs from CompuPlus - they are in upstate NY. And there is always Tiger Direct in FLorida - but they are not my favorite.

And, I have recently used an outfit in Illinois - Provantage.com. They are reliable.

When I am visiting in California (San Jose area) I often buy at Fry's - I pay the tax and don't worr7y about it.

Now that you are out of Ohio - how about MEI?

-The best store would be amazon imho, usually free shipping, no tax, good deals, and free shipping on defective returns. The big problem is they don't carry much variety like newegg.

-Tigerdirect when they rarely have a good deal, no tax, unfortunately they like to gouge in shipping.

-Directron is sometimes good, they also don't charge tax but they don't have that many good deals. I did get my wd640gb from them.

-Most of the time I'm forced to use newegg, because even with tax they are better on most deals.

-For heatsinks/fans I use jab-tech.com, usually best deals, no tax, low shipping

I have this same issue in TN, as we have a Newegg warehouse here in Memphis. I usually just buy from mWave, ZipZoomFly, or some of the smaller vendors (Performance-PCs, etc...).

Hah! I moved from Michigan to CA and had the same sales tax sticker shock. Though, I've found that since I'm less than three hours drive from San Jose, Fremont, Milpitas, and a half-dozen other major distribution/shipping points, the lower shipping charge does offset some of the sale tax. And getting my order in one or two days at the cheapest ground shipping option is a nice change from the typical 4+ business days for delivery in Michigan. So its not all downsides.

Your photos are incredible, BTW.

That's strange. I'm in AZ and just ordered an MSI Wind from MWave. My invoice doesn't show any sales tax. If they do start taxing me, I guess I'll switch totally to Newegg. Occasionally I can save a few bucks at MWave.

That is goodf to know. I see MWave is now in CA. I used to get all my mobo bundles from them - good choices - good prices, and reliable. Anyway - good to know that they work in AZ sans tax. :)

Sometimes I just don't keep up with corporate buyings and sellings.

For HDDs, L like ZZZ - they equal Newegg in price, often beat Newegg with free shipping, and always beat Newegg in HDD packing. Each ships in a foam box. Newegg mostly uses bubble wrap. Either is good for ground to AZ - usually always 3rd day.

Darn! All this time I have been told that paying taxes is my patriotic duty. :)
