People have no freaking manners anymore...

I was at the store today looking for an ink pen for work. I was standing at the side of an aisle with a good 6-8 feet of space for people to walk around me. An older gentlemen walked by and quietly said "Parden me sir" and he just walked down the aisle. A few seconds later, a young guy walked by with a broom in a cart and just stops right in front of me. Not only does the guy almost hit me in the head with the broom handle, I say "Excuse me, sir." and he looks at me says "Yah" and just looks right back at the pencils. Like he was thinking I was apologizing to him....

I then said "Excuse me sir, can I get by you real quick?" and he says "Just wait, I'm almost done. Don't get your panties in a bunch." WTF? It's not like he didn't see me, as he looked right at me when he started up the aisle. As if that isn't bad enough, he ended up hitting the older gentlemen from earlier with the broom stick in the shoulder as he was flying around a corner of the aisle.

This is so freaking typical of the ways kids act today. Do people not raise their kids with respect for people anymore? Is it just the society we live in today?

We are going to be in serious trouble with the baby boomer generation starts dying off... 🙁

btw: No, I'm not old... I'm 21.

The baby boomer generation are the idiots that are the root of the problem. If they (as a whole, there are plenty of great parents out there, so dont take this to heart you old folks, you may not survive it!) raised their children correctly in the first place, this would not be as much of an issue.

BTW, I find DC to be much more polite (of course, older people) than the smaller town I live in.

truly, it is sad. I do think you are right on. Sure there are a lot of people whose parents brought them up to respect others, but those people seem to be few and far between. It is incredable how rude some folks can be and i don't even think they notice that others are upset at their lack of common courtesy and manners

I think society has always been this way, to an extent - there will always be boors with few or no manners. There are still a great deal of people who are raised to be polite and considerate - however, those people are not noticed nearly as much as the rude few.

On the other hand, a certain amount of this is due to the media and a general degeneration in parental roles - our media teaches us that being polite is somehow "uncool", that to get what we want we have to be an asshole or otherwise unpolite. Look at MTV or at Comedy Central - how many "polite" people do you see on there?
