I have a female colleague who said she was afraid of earthquakes in Taiwan where she will be going next week, just because there was one this week. Makes me mentally LOL when she also works in a place with dangerously flammable chemicals and equipment located in sight everywhere she turns.

Besides, I can think of a million other worse things that can happen in a vacation that is more likely to happen...

Yep - like the people terrified of mass school shootings when stairs kill more people, the people who banned lawn jarts, sued buckeyballs and forced the closing of Blitz USA (gas can maker) yet still drive cars

It's a pretty fair comment to be honest. We are always more afraid the unknown and out of our control.

The media.

Easy to sell commercials and internet clicks for a shooting, bombing, stupid shit that kills 0.0002% of the population.

A lot harder to talk about the hamburger the gives a huge percentage of the population heart disease made from sludge in some animal processing death factory when McDonald's pays the bills.

Being good with statistics, I'm shocked at the amount of time and money being spent in my area on preparedness for school shootings. The number of children drowning *EACH YEAR* far surpasses the combined number of school shooting victims of ALL school shootings added together from Columbine until today.

We have two large recreational lakes in the area. I'm completely unaware if there are any voluntary safety checks for boats (life jackets, etc.) Or if there are even any checks out on these lakes while people are boating. (On a different lake that I go to, we're stopped about every year to every other year, and the DEC agent checks to make sure we have flares, enough life jackets, throwable cushions, proper anchors, horn, etc.)

Knowing where the actual dangers lie, it seems that resources would be better directed toward those dangers, not to unlikely dangers.

Shocked?

It has nothing to do with preparing the kids etc/or saving lives and EVERYTHING to do with making money.

Just like Terrorism. We spend BILLIONS, take the money from future/print and simply give it to Defense departments/military/supply and security contractors.

When we have 3000+ dying on our highways every month. That's right, that's 2 9/11s per month.

I don't see our government making the Driver education system better or testing proper. That's because there is NO MONEY in it and politicians can't line up their buddies with bundles of money.

They system is rigged....don't be blind.

We are not fighting terrorists, we are really fighting big government that's completely out of control.

I take that back, no one is fighting the government.....but we really need to.

Pretty much this. It's all about who can make who money. If there isn't money in it, it isn't happening or will be squashed by those who stand to lose money by it.

Just wait till a war starts on 3D printing. It's already coming. (not really on topic, but it's all related because it is all tied to who can get rich and how) but packaged as "protecting the masses".

I'm shocked that people don't even have a clue of what's going on around them.

Your country is robbing you people!!!

Sorry, they are actually robbing your children and their children.....as the money has not been made yet, but already printed.

WAKE UP AMERICA
