A viral Facebook post made by a man named Gerod Roth and its accompanying racists comments, has resulted in multiple firings.

Gerod Roth, who went as Geris Hilton on Facebook, worked for Polaris Marketing Group before being terminated after the company was notified of racially charged comments posted publicly on his Facebook profile.

The initial post was made on September 16, and contained a picture of himself with the Black child of a coworker.

Soon after, his Facebook friends began to comment on the post, captioning the pic with bigoted and racists comments.

So umm I can totally understand take a selfie at work.. we've all done it what 500 billion times collectively.

But I don't get the mind of a racist. How is it the first comment after a photo post is about owning slaves?

And for actually calling a co-workers kid feral.. he deserves to get fired.

I'm confused. The fellow who posted the pic didn't say anything, why did he get fired?

Gerod Roth was on Facebook with an alias called Geris Hilton and he called his own co-worker's kid feral.

I don't know what's more moronic, someone who uses social media to sully their own character or the employer who uses those comments made on free time as reasons for dismissal. These people need a life's beatdown though with that mouth of theirs. The kid is really cute, btw.

I think the fact that the kid was a co-worker's child changes things a bit. Have no issue with him getting fired.

Somehow, I think you're probably wrong, too.

There are many companies would have an issue with it, I would think a marketing company would be one of them for over all image.

Saw this yesterday. Pretty stupid on all of their parts, firing him is just fine by me.

I think the disagreement, if you call it that, was your "point" that the kid, being a co-worker's kid, made a difference. It doesn't and shouldn't.

The selfie in of itself looks pretty benign. Young guy with a goofy expression takes selfie with cute little kid. The first thing that comes to my mind is not racist at all, it's something like how this guy doesn't want young children/single lifestyle/etc.

The first comment just shoots off the bow stereotypes/caricatures of black people....some are more ignorant then others and some have clear signs of a racist charge...."Dindu Nuffins" is a clear marker of racist thoughts

As far as "wholly intolerable racism", this is weak racism. All racism is intolerable...but at what level will we punish those who show signs of racism? The big issue with companies is consistency. They need well written policies and they need to be consistent with them. I feel like the CEO is fishing for likes/retweets on this one and is only opening him up to an EEOC lawsuit. If that company doesn't have a well written personnel policy for employee behavior, he is #@%ed.

This wouldnt happen if they would just outsource. Slave labor in IndoChina dont get their panties in a wad if you make jokes about their mother or their skin color. This is yet another means of destroying the middle class. And like most other means, this one too is self inflicted. Why would you even use facebook at all, let alone to make remarks like this? Or even to provide a venue for remarks like this? Why? The facebook mentality itself is a large reason why so many jobs are leaving. People so stupid as to use such a site are also so stupid as to be unemployable.

Didn't ask the mom if it is okay to take pic and then post.

Didn't have the sense to remove it after first comment.

Replied with stupid comment.

Now crying about losing job.

Idiot.

My problem with the way we resolving these conflicts is that the angry mob & pitchfork method is being utilized. The suspect is burned and scorched without a fair trial or chance of rehab.

Especially with young people, we need to understand that their viewpoints can change dramatically with good information. What if this is some rich entitled kid with no life experience? Should we burn him alive or give him an opportunity to experience some humility and then see if he listens to a voice of reason? Instead of thinking "Man I shouldn't have said that publicly or openly" we could get him to think "Man, What I said was ignorant and I understand that now."

As if we are all so holy compared to all these ignorant asshats.... That is my real problem with angry mob attacks on people. If everyone stopped yelling and chanting, they could look at each other and see they are not so innocent themselves.

Perhaps I am out of date on what is considered a racist label but my first thought for 'feral' was 'un-disciplined child running amok' and not anything race related

Any of my employees say anything remotely close about another one of my other employees kids and I'd fire their ass in a heartbeat. Aside from the character issues alone, how the hell can I expect them to work together going forward? If I was just an employee and someone was saying shit like that about my kid the only work I'd be getting done would be on said assholes face.

I think his offense was playing along instead of calling out the comments.

I also think we're going to have to start dealing with these what-would-have-been-small-scale-momentary indiscretions before the internet turned them into worldwide-and-forever indiscretions differently. You can only express so much outrage before it loses its impact and there are far more worthy targets.

This. Feral is a word for "running wild".

If the kid was white, would you feel the same way? This is only as racist as you make it out to be.... And boy are you guys good at it.

I'm not condoning the other posts, especially any referring to the kid as a "slave" - but those are other people. Should you be held responsible for what other people say?

You have to look at the context.

So if I run into your office and yell "GONAD THE BARBARIAN HATES <Insert racial slur> and wants them to be lynched!", you should be held responsible for my actions?

Because that's what you're saying... You know... in case you're letting irrational judgement cloud logical thought process.

What if someone said, in private, to a friend that they thought (insert employees name here) new baby was ugly?
