I've run into cash discounts MAYBE 3 times in my life. Maybe it's a small town thing (haven't lived in a small town prior to putting my all my purchases on CCs), because here I really haven't run across it outside of tuition payments adding 2% or so if you use a CC.

Well, Visa and Mastercard have been cracking down on this. They do not want discounts for cash or additional charges for CC usage because it drives their business down.

When we changed transaction processors for our non-profit football league, we had to provide evidence that we would not treat CC transactions differently than cash/check transactions. Doing so would revoke our ability to accept CC's.

Why is it when BoA charges 5$ for debit use, the people go nuts? Do People understand that each store or merchant has a hidden fee to cover your debit use? Go to Quiktrip, Blockbuster, Walgreen's, Wal-Mart, Lowes, McDonalds etc... All combined, charge you more than 5$ in a hidden fee. The average merchant fee is charged 2% by Visa, Mastercard, Discover.... American Express can charge up to 3-4%. The same goes with Debit but a little less around 1-2% average.

Imagine this for a second: You buy 10$ of food at your local McDonald's. McDonald's actually charged you 9.80$ but added 19.6cents for using your Visa Card. That is 20 cents for ONE transaction. If you eat at Mcdonald's once a week, spend an average of 10$, that is an extra 1.00$ they just charged you for the convenience of a credit card.

If someone can help me understand, I would appreciate it. If a bank makes you angry, what do you do? Sit and complain or actually move your money? I'm not defending the banks actions, just tired of people complaining and not really understanding the process.

Why would you use a charge card at McDonalds...?

So you're throwing out 'fuck' every other sentence, calling someone you don't know names, and getting pissed at me because I didn't magically know what he meant to say.

Who's the asshole?

Because that's is the only way dipshits like you seem to get the message. The previous posts previous didn't seem to sink into your thick skull, so new tactics had to be deployed to get you to shut your dumbass mouth.

Seriously, go read the posts again. The way people responded to me is not the same thing at all that I did to him, because I didn't say something that is different than what I meant.

His post was explained 5 posts before you starting being a dickhead and 3 posts after he posted it. People started telling you to learn about overhead, which was a basic "I'm not really going to bother to comprehend his posts, just wing a response" - which is exactly what you did.

I was never once insulting toward anyone for simply not being clear about what they meant, because I wasn't aware of what he meant until these recent posts where others explained what they thought he meant.

It was explained literally 3 posts after he posted his original rant. 3 posts. A full HOUR AND A HALF before your dumbass rant.

So, uh, fuck off.

BTW, nobody is raging but you. Settle down.

Then don't be a fucking dickwad over stupid shit that any person that spent 2 seconds thinking about would get, especially when it's already received clarification WELL before you decided to chime in with a stupid response. It's posters like you that destroy message boards. "Derpa derp, I'm going to go look for a misspelling or something equally insignificant to rant about and ignore all other content to the thread."

2% cashback?

The problem is, you alone not using your cards is not going to lessen a store's fees significantly enough to have them lower prices, so not using your CC hurts only yourself (under the assumption you pay it all back at the end of the month). If EVERYONE stopped using their CCs, it would have an effect and lower or keep prices from rising, but you can't realistically affect the payment habits of other patrons, thus it is in your own best interest to receive the cashback and force McD's to pay the fees, which in turn will push/prop the price up.

3 posts after his post is a post about a house getting stolen. Not sure which post you're referring to.

Other people explained overhead, but they weren't clarifying his post, they were independent responses to my post. I never once disagreed that overhead exists. That was never an issue. Once someone said that was what they thought the poster I originally replied to MEANT by his post, the discussion was over. What's so difficult for you to understand about that?

Get over yourself. You're the only one ranting about anything.

To the OP, your bank blows. My bank (Wells Fargo) sucks, but even they don't charge me any fees for any transactions other than using an ATM that isn't theirs.

They rape me for that, I have to pay that ATM's fee and an additional "Fuck you for cheating on us" fee to Wells Fargo. So a $20 costs like $26 to get from a non-WF ATM.

Thankfully I have finally mastered the incredibly difficult task of withdrawing some cash from my account so this doesn't occur.

Actually they do now charge you $3 a month if you make a purchase with your debit card. I have since refused to pay for anything with my debit card.

Really? Is that across the board or just with certain account types?

There are certain fees that others have paid that I've been exempt from, I forget the name of the account type but they have a lot going on with that.

I don't really use my debit card for purchases anyway I guess, it's either cash or a credit card, it's just an ATM card for me. But I should check into that.

Actually been meaning to switch banks for a while but haven't gotten around to it just because of the convenience of having my visa linked to my online banking.

Honestly I don't remember. All I remember is getting a message stating that they were going to institute this fee if I used their debit card. Which made me o_O and then . Might not be for every state, but don't worry I'm sure they will roll it out everywhere soon!
