He's right though, there WAS a time to act. And they never took advantage of it. Why would some group be so offended by a simple youtube video? That's like if I saw a fat woman wearing red outside i'd protest Kool-aid for a month. Not that I drink it in the first place but whatever.

afaik:
i don't know if there was a time to act, iirc there weren't any military assets in place that would have been able to react in time to prevent any of the deaths.

as to the video, there had already been protests in part due to the video earlier that day in egypt and protests continued over the next week or so. the state department had thought there would be protests and it was shown on an egyptian satellite channel a few days prior.

I'm a little curious to why there was such a large cia presence in benghazi and what role that may have played in the response.

OP doesn't care about the deaths of 4 Americans? A pathetic excuse of a human being.

Obama had no authority to attack Libya, The Constitution requires approval from the Congress and a declaration of war (not that they should declare war).

Obama went in without approval and attacked a country that had done no harm to the US. Ghadaffi was a dictator and thug but during his later years changed and wasn't so anti-American. He actually clamped down on the Islamic radicals.

With Ghadaffi dead there are many more people like Ghadaffi who are also religious extremists and the country is divided into tribal areas controlled by the numerous armed groups.

Arming the Islamic terrorists was a bad idea and they used American weapons to attack the embassy on Sept 11. Another failure of the American foreign policy.

Obama blamed the video since he didn't want to call out radical Islamists. He apologized to the Muslim world for the video and had an innocent Christian locked up. He attacked free speech and the POS liberals were alright with it.

Hillary Clinton also said they would get the guy who made the video is attacking free speech.

They will care about it as long as they can keep media coverage of it and milk it out as long as they can to convince the public to vote Republican. But no, no one cares about it except Looney republicans. Funny how Fox cut away from Obama's speech with the German rep, because he wouldn't discuss it live. Lmao..

Which of these are in 24/7 rotation?

"You can't help but feel" because you're an ignorant partisan. Your helplessness over your beliefs is not a positive trait.

Security for the embassy initially lies with the host country.

How many Americans died in those attacks?
Then how many American government officials?

Libya was "trusted" and by most accounts failed and/or had cooperation with the attackers.

For such I blame the State for not providing the security requested and/or attempting to analyze the request.

then the stories that were woven to deflect the responsibility after the fact instead of coming out straight and stating that they screwed up; but to do so would provide political fodder against the Obama administration and that was unacceptable. So they issued statements that possibly were political driven (and would therefore be illegal).

One needs to evaluate what the assets could do within the time frame and how politically expedient it would be.

Would the needs to attempt to save/protect the Americans being attacked be worth challenging Libyan sovereignty?

Obama and the State department apparently felt no.

There were military assets available (on station within 2 hours) that may have made a difference but there was a political decision to not utilize them

I just can't help but feel that if Benghazi happened under a Republican administration that most of the people wanting to "move on" would be braying for blood.

Um, no kidding. Welcome to Partisan Politics 101, right here in P&N.

Hilary would never win an election...she is way too divisive. She would rally the republican base like none other.

link?
1200-1500km from Naval Air Station Sigonella, to Bengazi.
F18s on 10 minute Alert. 1.5-2 hrs with a A6 or USAF tanker to follow.

Unsure if any carrier assets were available closer.
Seals and/or Marines there could have been wheels up inside 30 minutes and airdropped within 4 hours.

The experts in the Pentagon disagree with you. They have stated on the record that the sorts of movie-inspired military responses demanded by critics were simply not feasible, because the right forces were not in the right places with the right equipment and the right information. While I understand the compulsion to attack everything the Obama administration does (or does not do), rational people are going to accept the judgment of the experts from the Pentagon over the infotainers on Fox.

http://www.captainsjournal.com/2012/11/03/so-what-were-the-assets-available-for-benghazi-part-ii/

I would like to draw your attention to the portion beginning with the Czechoslovakian''s remarks and further down. There have been many ex military/intelligence/counter terrorism types who have voiced the same info. What assets we have stationed where isn't all that secret (some is). There are firms that are paid to keep up with such things.

Clearly the Obama admin disagrees with the above opinions. But the lack of specificity, particularly by the Obama admin, make it difficult to know who is right.

The theory, which full disclosure: I have not corroborated in any way, is that the CIA was moving weapons through Libya to Syria.
