User calls in... conversation goes like this:

User: Hi. My manager told me to call in.

Me: Ok... did he say why?

User: No.

Me: Ok... are you having any issues?

User: I don't think so...

Me: Ok... well.. can you ask your manager why you have to call in?

User: I don't want to look stupid to my manager.. Can't you just fix something?

Me: Ok.. well... what do you need fixed.

User: um... nothing, i dont think...

Me: ok.. well.. then its fixed. You don't need anything fixed... i didn't fix anything. you're all set.

I am pretty sure stupid people are not solely relegated to graveyard shifts

Edit: You know what this means don't you? When the manager sees it's not fixed they will ask the employee if they called. They will say yes and claimed you said you had fixed it but you must not have - implying you don't know how to do your job and that it is your fault it still doesn't work

I've gotten calls like that before during the normal day. Its not necessarily the user being stupid, rather, the manager is probably overworked and busy so they aren't thinking very well.

I did not even read your post, but I can already tell you the answer is Yes people can be that stupid. If you have any doubts about this, read some of the listings for winners in the Darwin Awards. It is practically a miracle our civilization has made it this far.

I get a call from a guy with a Sun server today, says he has a failing disk.
I send him an email for more info and ask which disk is the faulty one, meaning which ctd# is it.
He replies "2nd disk from the right, on the top"

sigh....

Yes, yes they are.

I spent the other evening reloading an acer net book, which the owner got tired of the out of disk space warnings, so she deleted a bunch of windows operating files. Well, it would boot, but that was it. Hell, she had photoshop cs4 loaded on a net book, yeah, that seems like a great idea, when your hard drive is only 8gb...
